Melbourne Victory vs. Macarthur FC – A-League, May 6, 2021
Following three straight draws, Macarthur FC will be eager to return to winning ways – and keep their top-six hopes alive – when they face off against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Thursday, May 6.
Victory find themselves second from bottom on the A-League ladder – 14 points behind fifth-place Macarthur.
It is no secret that the Boys in Blue have endured a campaign to forget. Still, with Tony Popovic waiting in the wings, the players will surely be desperate to finish the season on a high.
In this Melbourne Victory vs. Macarthur FC betting preview, I discuss the A-League odds, analyze the teams, and give my prediction and pick for Thursday’s clash.
Melbourne Victory vs. Macarthur FC Odds
It is no real surprise that 10bet views Macarthur as the favorite to win this one. After all, the Bulls are miles clear of Victory on the A-League ladder and have performed far better than Victory all season.
The outcome of this match is by no means a formality, though, as Steve Kean’s men have picked up a couple of promising results in recent weeks – including a 5-4 win over the Wanderers and a draw with Central Coast last time out.
Assessing Melbourne Victory’s Form
Grant Brebner won’t want to hear this, but there has been an evident switch in momentum since the Scot left the club last month.
Kean’s first game as caretaker manager saw Victory score five goals in a crazy win over Western Sydney before the Boys in Blue gave an excellent account of themselves in a narrow 1-0 loss to Sydney FC – the defending champions.
Despite going behind early on against the Mariners on Sunday, Kean’s men showed great determination to battle back and rescued a draw, with Callum McManaman earning his side a precious point.
Still, there is a sense that the club is finally starting to move in the right direction again.
Macarthur Team News and Analysis
Whatever happens to the Bulls this season, they can be extremely proud of the efforts they produced throughout their maiden A-League campaign.
Yes, Ante Milicic’s men are currently enduring a five-game winless run. But having held Newcastle, Melbourne City, and Perth in recent weeks, they have still managed to pick up points.
Following a three-match winning streak not so long ago, the Bulls have only lost two of their previous eight outings. And in fairness, losing to Brisbane and Adelaide – two of the league’s in-form teams – is nothing to be ashamed of.
Macarthur hasn’t exactly set the A-League alight this year. However, the newcomers are still in a strong position to secure Finals Series soccer in their debut season – and that is an achievement in itself.
Matt Derbyshire scored 11 goals in a 14-match hot streak between January and April. Needless to say, the Englishman will be anxious to end his three-game goal-drought on Thursday.
Victory vs. Macarthur Betting Pick
Macarthur FC to Win2.05
There is no denying that Victory have upped their game recently, but I’m confident that Macarthur will get the better of the fallen giant and claim all three points at AAMI Park.
The Boys in Blue still have plenty of work to do before they can compete with the top teams in the country again. Unfortunately for them, the Bulls have arguably been one of the strongest sides in the league this year.
