Melbourne Renegades vs. Hobart Hurricanes – Big Bash League, January 26, 2021

| January 25, 2021 10:06 am PDT

Having won just three of their 13 games, we already know that the Renegades will finish rock bottom of the table this season. However, the Hurricanes still have it all to play for.

The Tasmanians travel to the MCG on Tuesday, January 26, knowing that a win will see them qualify for the playoffs. On the flip side, a loss could send them crashing out of the competition.

Keep reading to see my Melbourne Renegades vs. Hobart Hurricanes prediction and betting pick.

Melbourne Renegades vs. Hobart Hurricanes Odds

Melbourne Renegades to Win2.25
Hobart Hurricanes to Win1.57

10bet hasn’t sprung any surprises here. As expected, the bookmakers are favoring the Hurricanes (1.57) to win on Tuesday and book their place in the last five.

The Renegades (2.25) have been the worst team in BBL 10 by a considerable margin, although they will still be looking to finish the campaign on a positive note.

Melbourne Renegades vs. Hobart Hurricanes Preview

The Renegades enjoyed their moment in the sun last week. Mackenzie Harvey (47) and Sam Harper (39) fired their side to a memorable victory over the Stars, securing the Melbourne bragging rights in the process.

However, it’s fair to say that Michael Klinger’s men haven’t had anything else to get excited about this season.

The Big Bash standings are hugely congested, yet the Gades find themselves 11 points adrift at the foot of the table. The other seven teams are only separated by a handful of points, but Klinger’s side was out of playoff contention a long time ago.

A net run rate of –1.911 tells you everything you need to know about the Renegades’ below-par performances this year. The team has been nowhere near good enough with bat or ball, so there is plenty of work to do for next season.

With captain Aaron Finch enduring a torrid run of form and star bowler Kane Richardson out injured, it goes without saying that the Gades are not in a good place right now.

It looked as though the Hurricanes might miss out on a top-five finish following a disappointing downturn not so long ago. A run of just one win in five games saw Adam Griffith’s men slide down the standings, but they bounced back in style on Sunday.

A mammoth opening partnership between Matthew Wade (86) and D’Arcy Short (72) enabled to Canes to finish on 188/8 last time out, with the Sixers eventually falling seven runs short.

As well as Wade and Short, the Tasmanians have Ben McDermott and Dawid Malan to call upon. McDermott is the fifth-highest run-scorer this season, while Malan is the number-one ranked T20 batsman on the planet.

The two-time runners-up have never won a Big Bash title. But with the competition seemingly wide open, this could be their year.

The Hurricanes appear to be hitting form at just the right time.

Melbourne Renegades vs. Hobart Hurricanes Prediction and Pick

  • Hobart Hurricanes to Win

The Renegades showed glimpses of what they are capable of when they beat the Stars last week. However, replicating that performance against the Hurricanes is a big ask.

With Wade back in the team, the Canes look seriously dangerous. I’m expecting the Tasmanians to book their spot in the playoffs with a comfortable win on Tuesday.
