Melbourne City welcomes Perth Glory to AAMI Park on Sunday, January 31, with both sides looking to establish some early-season form.

The Glory has scored ten and conceded ten on their way to picking up three points from their opening three games, while City has scored three and conceded three en route to claiming six points from a possible nine.

Melbourne City vs. Perth Glory Odds

Melbourne City to Win2.05
The Draw3.50
Perth Glory to Win3.35

It is difficult to know exactly what to expect from this matchup, yet the top online betting sites all see Melbourne City (2.05) as the home favorite here.

However, Perth Glory (3.35) has been wildly unpredictable so far this season, making the high price for the draw (3.50) stand out at first glance.

Melbourne City vs. Perth Glory Preview

Melbourne City got away with having a man sent off in their opening game. Adrian Luna was shown a red card following Connor Metcalfe’s goal, but Patrick Kisnorbo’s side managed to hold on and beat Brisbane Roar 1-0.

But just a few days later, Scott Jamieson’s red card changed everything against Adelaide United. The left-back was sent off on 65 minutes, with the Reds subsequently scoring two goals in quick succession to snatch a 2-0 win.

Last weekend, City addressed their disciplinary issues – and it showed. Kisnorbo’s men secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Western United, with Jamie Maclaren opening his 2020/21 account in the process.

Maclaren scored 27 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions last term. Needless to say, the forward will be quietly confident of adding to his tally against his former club on Sunday.

It’s fair to say that this matchup brings together a clash of styles. While City’s games have been relatively low-scoring affairs this season, Perth’s have been quite the opposite.

The Glory kicked off their campaign with a crazy 5-3 victory over Adelaide before suffering an even crazier 5-4 defeat to Western United. Last time out, the Western Australians lost 2-1 to Melbourne Victory.

Nick D’Agostino, Bruno Fornaroli, and Carl Armiento have all scored three goals across the opening three games, with the latter two also contributing two assists along the way. But at the other end of the pitch, Richard Garcia has some serious defensive issues to address.

If the Glory’s leaky backline is left exposed to City’s clinical forward line, we will almost certainly see the visitors concede more goals this weekend.

Melbourne City vs. Perth Glory Betting Pick

  • Melbourne City to Win

Sure, Garcia’s men have scored ten goals in just three outings this season. But let’s not forget that they have conceded ten goals, too. Against a team of Melbourne City’s quality, I can’t see the Glory getting away with that kind of approach.

Kisnorbo’s men haven’t exactly been firing on all cylinders during the early stages of the campaign, yet they have still managed to pick up two wins. With an erratic Perth side up next, I’m expecting City to record their third win of the season.

In my opinion, the price for the home win is pretty generous here. Jump on it before it changes!
