Melbourne City vs. Adelaide United – A-League, May 13, 2021

| May 12, 2021 6:03 am PDT

High-flying Melbourne City has the chance to move closer to premiership glory when off-form Adelaide visits AAMI Park on Thursday, May 13.

Having lost just one of their previous 14 matches, Patrick Kisnorbo’s men find themselves nine points clear at the A-League summit with a game in hand over second-place Sydney FC.

The Reds are level with Sydney FC on 32 points, although they have failed to win any of their last four outings.

If you’re betting on Melbourne City vs. Adelaide United, you’ll want to keep reading. I discuss the odds for Thursday’s A-League clash before sharing my prediction and pick.

Odds for Melbourne City vs. Adelaide

Melbourne City to Win1.36
The Draw5.25
Adelaide United to Win7.00

It’s safe to say that 10bet hasn’t sprung any surprises with the odds for this matchup. You only have to take a quick glance at the A-League ladder to understand why Melbourne City is the clear favorite to win on Thursday.

Although Adelaide beat City 2-0 back in January, a lot has changed since then – and the bookmakers’ odds reflect that.

I’m sure the riskier bettors out there will be keen to back the Reds at the massive price of 7.00. That said, it is important to remember just how good City has been in recent months.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Melbourne City vs. Adelaide Preview

Unsurprisingly, Melbourne City extended their remarkable run with a 3-2 victory over Brisbane last time out. The only surprising thing about Sunday’s win is that Jamie Maclaren failed to get on the scoresheet.

Maclaren has bagged an outrageous 22 goals and five assists in 20 A-League appearances this season, leaving him 11 goals clear at the top of the Golden Boot leaderboard.

Patrick Kisnorbo’s men are currently enjoying a seven-match unbeaten streak and have won each of their last three outings. Better still, they have scored three goals in each of their previous three games.

In fact, thanks to Maclaren’s exploits, City has netted 48 goals in 20 games this term (2.4 goals per game).

The club also boasts the second-best defensive record in the A-League, having conceded just 23 goals.

If the Reds are to get anything from Thursday’s match, they will need to thwart City at both ends of the pitch.

What has happened to Adelaide?

Just a few weeks ago, the Reds looked set to challenge City for the premiership title. But having managed to win just one of their last seven outings, they could drop out of the top six if things don’t go their way.

It is worth noting that Carl Veart’s men have picked up four draws in their previous six matches, so they haven’t slipped off the rails altogether. Still, if they can’t turn draws into wins, they will only drop more points.

The South Australians head into Thursday’s clash on the back of consecutive clean sheets, although they failed to score against both Western United and Wellington.

It is no coincidence at Adelaide’s slump has come alongside a downturn in form for Craig Goodwin. The winger bagged five goals and five assists across his first nine appearances this term, but he has failed to register a goal involvement in the past three games.

My City vs. Adelaide Prediction and Pick

  • Melbourne City to Win

After assessing the form of both sides, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that the home win is my Melbourne City vs. Adelaide United prediction.

At the end of the day, Kisnorbo’s men have been on a completely different level to Adelaide in recent weeks. While the Reds have taken a turn for the worse, City has continued to rise.
