Maycee Barber vs. Alexa Grasso Betting Preview for UFC 258

| February 9, 2021 4:46 pm PDT

Maycee Barber vs. Alexa Grasso is your co-main event for UFC 258 this Saturday, February 13, from the UFC APEX.

If you’re looking to make money betting on this one, I’ll be breaking down the odds and best wagers to place on Barber vs. Grasso, as well as touching upon where the betting value is to be found in this women’s flyweight matchup.

Speaking of value, I have to point out that this is a strange fight to have as a co-main of a pay-per-view card.

Are paying fans really getting a good deal here? I guess you’ll have to take that up with Dana White and company. But it’s an odd decision, especially with Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch further down the card.

But I digress. We’re here to talk about betting on Barber vs. Grasso, so let’s dive straight in with my prediction for the fight.

Who Wins Between Barber and Grasso?

  • Alexa Grasso by Decision

My UFC 258 co-main event prediction is Grasso to beat Barber by decision.

Why? Well, I’m not convinced that Barber is going to hit the ground running against Grasso. This will be the first fight she’s had since January 20, and I anticipate a tough night for the American.

Is Barber still the future? More on that later.

First, let’s see what the bookies think of this one.

Odds for Maycee Barber vs. Alexa Grasso

Barber to Win+105
Grasso to Win-135

Barber’s odds to beat Grasso opened at -130 before hitting +105.

Conversely, Grasso opened as a plus money dog (+110) but has moved out to -135. She should close around the -140 mark, making this the tenth fight from her last eleven, where she enters the cage as the favorite.

You might be thinking why Barber is an underdog against Grasso. Especially as she closed as a -1000 in her loss to Roxanne Modafferi — a fighter that is ranked six places higher than Grasso, at #9, in the official UFC rankings.

Let’s take a look at the bets for the fight before I explain the reasons why.

Best Bets for Barber vs. Grasso

  • Grasso to Win (-135)
  • Grasso to Win by Decision (-105)
  • Grasso to Win in Round 3 (+2000)

The best Barber vs. Grasso bet? I believe it is Grass to win. This wager gets you odds of -135 with MyBookie.

Now, those odds might not be the greatest you’ve ever seen, but they are the safest option.

If you want to improve your odds, you can get your hands on -105 on Grasso to win by decision. While this the likeliest way the fight will end, it’s probably more sensible to simply go for the win.

The best sleeper bet for the UFC 258 co-main event is Grasso to win in Round 3. This bet gets you a ridiculous +2000, which is worth a shot, in my opinion.

Barber is making her return to action following a complete ACL tear suffered against Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 246. And while the 22-year-old will have been through the best rehabilitation and prep, ACL tears have a nasty habit of repeating themselves.

This bet is worth some pocket change.

Why Grasso Beats Barber

Alexa Grasso signed to the UFC in 2017 with a record of 8-0 and fair potential.

Things haven’t quite gone according to plan, with a record of 4-3 in her seven fights in the promotion.

She has been on a win-loss streak since beating Heather Jo Clark in November 2016 and is looking to put her first win streak together since that year.

But I’m still convinced she has what it takes to beat Maycee Barber at UFC 258. Judging by the odds for Grasso to beat Barber, it appears that I am not alone.

Don’t get me wrong. Barber has excellent potential. But the only decent fighter she has come up against was Roxanne Modafferi, and she lost.

Yes, she suffered an injury. But ACL or no ACL, I believe that she still would have lost that fight.

I’ll take Grasso to grind out the win on the cards. She is tough enough to withstand the American’s shots and smart enough to deny her the space to fire off her shots.
