Pick and Prediction for the Mavericks vs. Suns – Wednesday, May 4th, 2022

| May 4, 2022 11:56 am PDT

Game 2 is set between the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns for Wednesday. Both teams have been playing at a high level all season and will be looking to get a win in this game.

The Suns will have home court advantage, where they finished with a league-best record of 35-10 this season. Dallas was a solid traveling team this year at 25-20, so this game should be interesting.

Phoenix took Game 1 by a score of 121-114 and will be looking to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. The Mavs will be looking to even the series up at 1-1 and head back to their home stadium.

Let’s take a look at the odds for Game 2 and see which team we should take for Wednesday.

BetUS 125% up to $2,500 +6 (-110) -6 (-110) Visit BetUS

Here are the odds for each team on the best betting sites for the NBA. The Suns are clear favorites at -6, while the point total is set around 216.0 as well.

Phoenix is definitely the better team and has home court advantage. That doesn’t mean Dallas has no chance of winning this game, but it’s the main reason why the Suns are favored to win by a good amount.

The first game was also decided by 7 points, so a 6 point spread for Game 2 seems reasonable as well. The over is slightly more favored to hit as well at (-115), which is because the first game’s total was 235, 19 more points than Game 1’s finish.

If you are more interested in moneylines than spread betting, the Suns are sitting around (-250), while the Mavericks are around (+210) if they pull off the upset.

Mavericks vs. Suns Matchup Preview

These two teams are full of talent across the board. There are lots of superstars in this game and they’ll be playing a major role like they normally do. Luka Doncic was his usual unstoppable self in Game 1, scoring 45 points but came up short in the end.

Chris Paul and Devin Booker will lead the charge for Phoenix. CP3 is still chasing his first career NBA ring and this might be his best chance to win it. They came up short last season, but that could fuel their fire even more for this year.

Dallas Mavericks Outlook

When talking about the Dallas Mavericks, it’s impossible to not talk about Luka Doncic. Luka’s Game 1 performance was impressive, but the Mavs are going to have to make some changes if they want to win Game 2.

With that being said, they’ve been riding Luka all year and it’s unlikely that they change that up now. He leads the league in usage and has the ball in his hands for an insane amount of time. If he can have another big game, Dallas should find themselves within striking distance.

Luka is going to have to let his teammates do some of the work though. He missed the first 3 games of the series against Utah in Round 1 and his teammates were able to go 2-1 without him. Utah’s a tough team too, so he’s got to let his teammates do their thing.

Even if Luka drops 50 points, it might not be enough to beat the Suns. I’d like to see Luka try to get his teammates more involved and not take 30 shots for himself. He’s going to be guarded against one of the best defenders in the league in Mikal Bridges, so other players have to step up.

Phoenix Suns Outlook

As for the Suns, they can keep the same game plan they had in Game 1. They won by 7, but they had a commanding 21 point lead at one point and actually never trailed. Phoenix out did Dallas in many team stats including the following;

  • Assists: 27 vs. 16
  • Rebounds: 51 vs. 36
  • Field Goal Percentage: 50% vs. 47%
  • Free Throw Percentage: 100% (18/18) vs. 72% (18/25)
  • Offensive Rebounds: 13 vs. 7

Suns’ head coach Monty Williams does an incredible job with his team. He knows the importance of having flexibility of your lineup and took advantage of that against Dallas in Game 1.

Luka may have scored 45 points, but only three other players were in double digits (Kleber, Finney-Smith, Brunson). Basketball is not a one-man game and the Suns can attack you from all different angles.

Deandre Ayton scorched them for 25 points in Game 1, while 5 other Suns’ players scored in double digits. They play team basketball, while Dallas is heavily reliant on just one player. That should give the Suns an advantage in this game and home court doesn’t hurt as well.

Mavericks vs. Suns Same Game Parlay for Game 2

Luka Doncic Over 8.5 Assists+102
Jae Crowder Over 1.5 Threes-113
Reggie Bullock Over 4.5 Rebounds-124
Maxi Kleber Over 1.5 Threes-130

That brings us to my same game parlay for Game 2. SGP’s are a great way to chain together a couple bets for some very profitable odds. For example, these 4 picks all together combine for (+1025) odds. So a $100 bet would turn into $1,125 if all 4 legs hit.

Luka has to share the ball a bit more in this game. He scored 45 points in Game 1 and they still lost by a good margin. Phoenix was up 17 heading into the 4th quarter, so a major change is needed out of Dallas.

If Luka can spread the ball more in their offense, they could have a better chance of winning. He had 8 assists in Game 1, so one more for Game 2 seems like a great bet with plus odds.

Hopefully one or two of those assists go to Maxi Kleber from long range. With tons of attention on Luka, other players like Kleber will be open. He hit 5 threes in Game 1 and has attempted 7.5 per game in two games against Phoenix in 2022.

We just need him to hit 2, and his 5 makes in Game 1 are very encouraging.

Another support player that should be open for threes is Jae Crowder. Crowder is primarily a defender, but teams often leave him wide open for three pointers. He wasn’t great down the stretch, but he was able to hit 3 in Game 1.

Lastly, Reggie Bullock has gotten 5+ rebounds in 6 of his last 7 games. To place this Mavs vs. Suns SGP for Game 2, head over to Bovada.

My Pick for Mavericks vs. Suns on 5/4/2022

  • Phoenix Suns -6

For my final betting prediction for the Mavericks vs. Suns Game 2, I am rolling with Phoenix. Personally I think Dallas relying too heavily on Luka Doncic is not a good long term plan. That could also mean that the rest of their roster is just untrustworthy.

The Suns were able by 21 points in Game 1 at one point and were up 17 going into the 4th quarter. Dallas outscored them by 10 in basically garbage time, which made the score look closer than the game actually was.

There aren’t many reasons to expect a different outcome and the Suns won by 7 even with the garbage time points last time. They are hungrier this season to avenge their NBA Finals loss from last season and should be able to get the job done tonight.

If Dallas wins any game this series, it makes more sense for it to happen in Dallas rather than in Phoenix.
