Manchester United vs. Newcastle United Betting Preview – EPL, February 21, 2021

Manchester United remains the closest challenger to its local rivals at the top of the Premier League, but not many people really think that it will be the red half of the city that is celebrating in May.

But there has been a big improvement at Old Trafford this season – and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be pleased with consolidating a Champions League spot this year.

Newcastle may have picked up a few more points in the last month or so, but BetOnline gives the away side no chance on Sunday, making United the odds-on favorite. There is very little to disagree with that pricing of the game – and the home win bet is really the only one to go with.

Manchester United navigated a tricky looing Europa League tie in the week with ease, as it beat Real Sociedad in its away leg. Although that may mean that the players are a little tired for this game on Sunday, the margin of victory should also build confidence in a team that hasn’t always shown enough this season.

League form has not been the greatest recently, with only the incredible 9-0 mauling of Southampton standing out from a group of draws and defeats against some of the weaker sides in the EPL. Newcastle at home should be a perfect opportunity for the Red Devils to get back on track.

Steve Bruce’s side has looked a little better in the last few games, though. There were times in the nine-game winless streak at the start of the year that the Newcastle players didn’t look as if they really cared whether the club stays up this season – or that it thought that there was no way it could get relegated.

The return of a number of key players, such as Allan Saint-Maximin and James Lascelles, has helped. But the overall attitude just seems to have improved. Losing Callum Wilson to a long-term injury is a huge blow, though, considering he has scored 10 of the side’s 25 league goals this season.

The odds for the home win are not great, but I feel that the big European win in midweek will do wonders for Manchester United as it looks to remain somewhere close to City at the top. Solskjaer could even afford to tinker with the starting eleven – and improve it – on Sunday and still claim the three points.
