Manchester United vs. Leeds United – English Premier League, December 20, 2020

| December 18, 2020 3:28 pm PDT

This would have been one of the games that Leeds fans would have really been looking forward to when the Yorkshire club booked its return to the top flight after so many years at the end of last season.

It is a real shame that there will be no fans inside Old Trafford, as two teams with very good players – but also obvious limitations – come together on Sunday.

Manchester United vs. Leeds United Odds

Manchester United to Win-145
The Draw+295
Leeds United to Win+340

Although Manchester United is currently on a very good run of results, there is still an unconvincing element to its game, so the odds for a home win seem far too short here. I would be more interested in the draw bet at these prices – but Leeds will raise its game as well.

Manchester United vs. Leeds United Match Preview

Manchester United was made to work for its 3-2 win away at Sheffield United in the week, but the points were always safe – and it gave the Red Devils its sixth game in a row without a loss. That’s a fact that seems to be forgotten when people talk about the ‘crisis’ at Old Trafford.

But there is no doubt that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not overseeing a classic team performance. Bruno Fernandes seems indispensable – as do the goals of Marcus Rashford. But there are too many questions about this current Manchester United team to be completely secure in backing it.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds is very similar in that way. The 5-2 win over Newcastle in the week was emphatic, once the Yorkshire club had started to truly believe in itself. But other sides would not have given Newcastle a chance to be involved at all. There is no doubt about the talent of some of the Leeds attacking moves – but the team has conceded more goals than anyone outside the bottom three as well.

The way that Bielsa has his Leeds team playing, there is never going to be a problem about finding the net and hurrying down opposing players. That could work in Leeds’ advantage on Sunday as the home side’s midfield will want more time on the ball. But the final result might come down to which defense is sturdier.

Manchester United vs. Leeds United Prediction and Pick

  • The Draw

When Manchester United’s strikers are on form – and have Bruno Fernandes to back them up – there are not many teams in the Premier League that can cope. But there are some big holes in the team that have not been fixed by Solskjaer – and that’s where the chance of a draw for Leeds comes in this weekend.
