Manchester City vs. Olympiacos – Champions League, November 3, 2020

Manchester City will be aiming to maintain their 100% record in this season’s Champions League when Greek side Olympiacos visits the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, November 3.

Convincing victories over Porto and Marseille mean Pep Guardiola’s side is three points clear at the top of Group C, with Olympiacos sitting third following a win and a defeat.

The leading online sportsbooks haven’t sprung any surprises with their odds for this matchup. As expected, Manchester City (1.20) is the clear favorite to win on Tuesday.

Olympiacos (13.00) showed great spirit to beat Marseille on Matchday 1 but was easily beaten by Porto last week. Even the odds for the draw (7.25) are massive, although it is difficult to look past the home side.

Manchester City has started the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League in flying fashion. Guardiola’s beat Porto 3-1 on the opening day before cruising past Marseille 3-0 last week, with Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres each scoring on both occasions.

But for all their success on the European stage this term, it is fair to say that Man City has struggled domestically. The Cityzens were forced to grind out a narrow 1-0 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday and find themselves tenth in the EPL standings following an unconvincing run of results.

The English side has actually only lost one of their six league games this season, but disappointing draws with Leeds and West Ham have prevented the club from making an early impact on the Premier League title race.

However, Man City has left their domestic troubles at home when competing in the Champions League recently, so I can’t help but fear the worst for Olympiacos on Tuesday.

Usurpingly, Olympiacos has started their domestic season on a high. The Piraeus outfit has won four and drawn one of their five Super League games this term, scoring 12 goals while conceding just one in the process.

New signing Ahmed Hassan netted a brace in a 2-0 victory over Apollon Symyrni on Saturday, taking his tally to four goals and two assists in all competitions this season. The Egyptian also scored the only goal of the game as Olympiacos beat Marseille a fortnight ago.

However, the Greek side was outplayed by Porto in their previous Champions League outing. Pedro Martins’ men lost 2-0 to the Portuguese club last week, proving that they are likely to struggle against Man City.

Guardiola’s men have not been at their free-flowing best this season, but they have hardly put a foot wrong in the Champions League. Despite their domestic woes, I’m confident that Man City will beat Olympiacos with ease on Tuesday.

The victory over Marseille proves the Greek side can compete with the lesser side in the competition, but having lost to Porto last week, I’m expecting Olympiacos to find life very difficult at the Etihad Stadium.
