Manchester City vs. Chelsea – 2021 UEFA Champions League Final

| May 29, 2021 3:42 am PDT

Following another unforgettable Champions League campaign, Manchester City and Chelsea meet for an all-English final in Porto this Saturday, May 29.

Pep Guardiola’s men head into the showpiece as Premier League champions, but let’s not forget that Chelsea has already beaten Man City on two occasions this year.

Can the Cityzens clinch their first-ever UCL crown? Or will the Blues upset the Champions League odds and add to their 2012 triumph this weekend?

Keep reading to find my Manchester City vs. Chelsea prediction and betting pick for the 2021 UEFA Champions League final.

Manchester City vs. Chelsea Odds

Manchester City to Win1.90
The Draw3.40
Chelsea to Win4.50
Manchester City to Win the Cup1.40
Chelsea to Win the Cup2.85

All the top-rated sports betting sites view Man City as the favorite to win the final – and it is difficult to argue with that viewpoint. After all, Guardiola’s side finished 19 points clear of Chelsea in the EPL and has arguably been the strongest team in Europe this season.

That said, the Blues know what it takes to get the better of the Cityzens. Given that this a one-off match, there is plenty of value to be found in these odds.

2021 Champions League Final Preview

Man City’s route to the final has been hugely impressive to watch. Guardiola’s men have yet to taste defeat in the UCL this season, recording 11 wins and one draw on their way to the showpiece.

After cruising through the group stage – conceding just a single goal in six matches – the Cityzens beat Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, and Paris Saint-Germain to book their spot in the final.

The EPL champions ran away with their domestic title, too.

Not only were they the top scorers in England, but they also boasted the best defensive record.

As a result, they finished 12 points clear of second-place Manchester United.

Ilkay Gundogan has bagged 17 goals and five assists in all competitions this term, while Phil Foden has 16 goals and ten assists to his name.

With guys like Riyad Mahrez (14 goals, nine assists), Raheem Sterling (14 goals, 12 assists), and Kevin De Bruyne (ten goals, 18 assists) also enjoying outstanding campaigns, Man City is more than capable of blowing away any team on the planet.

At the other end of the pitch, Ruben Dias and John Stones have forged a formidable center-back partnership in front of goalkeeper Ederson. You cannot find a weak link on Guardiola’s side.

It is no secret that Chelsea endured a below-par start to the season. But when Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in the Stamford Bridge hot seat back in January, everything changed.

Since then, the Blues have only suffered five defeats in 29 games in all competitions. Granted, they have lost some important matches in recent weeks – including the FA Cup final – but the team is certainly ready to challenge for silverware.

Tuchel has changed a lot. However, it is in defense where Chelsea has made the most improvements. In fact, the Londoners have kept 18 clean sheets in 29 matches since the German coach arrived. That’s a shutout rate of 62%!

Defensively, the Tuchel doesn’t have too much to worry about.

But the question on everyone’s lips is – will he pick Timo Werner to lead the line?

Werner has come in for tons of criticism this season and has consistently missed big goalscoring opportunities. Against a team of Man City’s quality, you can’t afford to have a misfiring striker in your ranks.

Still, Chelsea knocked City out of the FA Cup in April before beating them in the EPL earlier this month. Securing three straight victories over the Premier League champions is a massive ask.

My Man City vs. Chelsea Betting Pick

  • Manchester City to Win

If you’re looking for a safe Champions League final bet, I recommend going with Man City to lift the trophy. However, I’m backing Guardiola’s men to seal the deal in normal time and win the cup within 90 minutes.

Yes, Chelsea has already beaten Man City twice this year. But the Blues have lost three of their last four games, so I’m confident that Man City will come out on top this time around.
