| June 27, 2022 4:17 am PDT

Week 16 of the 2022 Major League Soccer season may have only finished on Sunday, but the fun doesn’t stop there. On Wednesday, June 29, we have seven midweek games to get our teeth into.

The top three teams in the Eastern Conference return to action on Wednesday, along with LAFC – the current Supporters’ Shield frontrunner. Meanwhile, high-profile clubs like Seattle, LA Galaxy, and FC Dallas will be on display.

Join me as I share my MLS predictions for Wednesday, June 29. I will also be going over the top MLS betting picks for Wednesday, so make sure you stick around until the end! If you’re ready to bet right now, feel free to use the betting sites listed below.

MLS Odds for Wednesday, June 29, 2022

  • FC Cincinnati (+265) vs. New York City (+100)
  • Toronto FC (+160) vs. Columbus Crew (+158)
  • Chicago Fire (+145) vs. Philadelphia Union (+200)
  • Seattle Sounders (-105) vs. CF Montreal (+295)
  • LA Galaxy (-125) vs. Minnesota United (+345)
  • Los Angeles FC (-105) vs. FC Dallas (+370)
  • Portland Timbers (-115) vs. Houston Dynamo (+330)

It is worth noting that BetOnline favors two teams to win away from home on Wednesday. Columbus is the marginal favorite against Toronto, while New York City is expected to claim all three points in Cincinnati.

On the flip side, Chicago, Seattle, LA Galaxy, LAFC, and Portland are favored to win on home soil. That said, Wednesday’s MLS odds indicate that the Fire’s clash with Philadelphia should be a close-fought battle.

MLS Predictions for Wednesday, June 29

Here are my Major League Soccer predictions for Wednesday. Remember to check out my recommended MLS picks, too!

FC Cincinnati vs. New York City Prediction

Let me start by saying that FC Cincinnati has improved drastically this year. The three-time MLS Wooden Spoon winners find themselves seventh in the Eastern Conference after winning five of their past eight games, highlighting just how far they’ve come.

Still, New York City remains second in the East – four points clear of Cincinnati. The defending MLS Cup champions have won eight of their 15 games this season, registering three draws and four losses along the way.

Not only do the reigning champs have the second-best offensive record in the conference, but they also boast the second-best defensive record. They shouldn’t struggle to expose Cincy’s leaky backline.

My Prediction for FC Cincinnati vs. New York City: New York City to Win

Toronto FC vs. Columbus Crew Prediction

Toronto and Columbus are locked on 18 points towards the bottom end of the Eastern Conference. With only DC United and Chicago below them, it wouldn’t be unfair to say that TFC and the Crew are enduring below-par seasons.

The Canadians have scored five goals more than Columbus in 2022, but the Ohioans have conceded 13 goals fewer. With that in mind, I can see them canceling each other out on Wednesday. A draw feels like the most probable outcome here.

My Prediction for Toronto FC vs. Columbus Crew: Draw

Chicago Fire vs. Philadelphia Union Prediction

Thanks to last weekend’s win over NYCFC, Philadelphia sits atop the Eastern Conference after suffering a solitary loss in 16 outings. Impressively, Jim Curtin’s men have avoided defeat in each of their past nine MLS games.

It is worth noting, however, that Philly has registered seven draws across the previous nine rounds. As a result, the Union has recorded more draws than anyone else this year.

MOST DRAWS – EASTERN CONFERENCE (2022)

  • Philadelphia Union – 8
  • New England Revolution – 6
  • Columbus Crew – 6
  • New York Red Bulls – 5
  • Chicago Fire – 5

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Fire held Philly to a draw on Wednesday. With the home-field advantage on their side, the Fire will fancy their chances of frustrating the U.

My Prediction for Chicago Fire vs. Philadelphia Union: Draw

Seattle Sounders vs. CF Montreal Prediction

The Sounders extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 3-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City at the weekend. In addition to winning three of their last four outings, Brian Schmetzer’s boys have won five of their previous seven.

Although Montreal leads Seattle by three points in the overall standings, I expect in-form Seattle to win this one. The Canadians have lost three of their past five games, so they are not in a good place at the moment.

My Prediction for Seattle Sounders vs. CF Montreal: Seattle Sounders to Win

LA Galaxy vs. Minnesota United Prediction

Minnesota United heads into Wednesday’s clash against the Galaxy on a three-match losing run. Following defeats to NYCFC, New England, and Inter Miami, the Loons find themselves third from bottom in the Western Conference.

At the opposite end of the standings, Greg Vanney’s men sit sixth – six points ahead of Minnesota. Boasting the best defensive record in the West, the Galaxy should make light work of struggling Minnesota.

My Prediction for LA Galaxy vs. Minnesota United: LA Galaxy to Win

Los Angeles FC vs. FC Dallas Prediction

Just when it seemed as though LAFC couldn’t possibly get any stronger, Gareth Bale joins the club.

Thanks to the goals of Carlos Vela and Cristian Arango, the Californians are already the top scorers in the league. They also sit four points clear of their nearest challengers – and the arrival of Bale will only make them stronger.

Don’t get me wrong, Dallas is not having a bad season. But LAFC is on a totally different level right now. The Texans should be no match for the Black & Gold.

My Prediction for Los Angeles FC vs. FC Dallas: Los Angeles FC to Win

Portland Timbers vs. Houston Dynamo Prediction

In the Western Conference, just two points separate eighth-place Houston and eleventh-place Portland as the two sides prepare to do battle on Wednesday. But who will come out on top in Oregon?

The Timbers suffered three straight losses at the end of May. However, they appear to be back on track following a draw against the Galaxy and a 3-0 victory over the Rapids last time out.

As for the Dynamo, they have won three of their previous six MLS clashes to keep themselves within touching distance of the top seven. For that reason, I can see them holding Portland to a draw.

My Prediction for Portland Timbers vs. Houston Dynamo: Draw

Top MLS Picks for Wednesday, June 29

  • FC Cincinnati vs. New York City – New York City to Win (+100)
  • Seattle Sounders vs. CF Montreal – Seattle Sounders to Win and Over 2.5 Goals (+188)
  • Chicago Fire vs. Philadelphia Union – Under 2.5 Goals (-133)

I’m aware that Cincinnati has improved this year, but New York City shouldn’t struggle to claim all three points in Ohio. NYCFC claimed the MLS Cup last season, while Cincy finished rock bottom of the overall standings. Need I say more?

I expect the Sounders to secure their sixth victory in eight MLS games on Wednesday, but they won’t have it all their own way. This year, games involving Montreal average 3.6 goals. A high-scoring win is on the cards for Seattle.

All but four of Philadelphia’s 16 MLS games have produced under 2.5 goals this season. Since Chicago has the worst offensive record in the entire league, the clash between the Fire and Philly is destined to be a low-scoring affair.
