Major League Soccer Predictions and Picks – Sunday, May 8 (2022)

| May 6, 2022 6:08 am PDT

We have three intriguing Major League Soccer matchups to enjoy on Sunday, May 8.

First up, Candian rivals Vancouver and Toronto clash in the early kick-off. Before high-flying Austin FC and LA Galaxy wrap up Sunday’s action, Nashville and Real Salt Lake go head-to-head in Tennessee.

Today, I will be taking you through my MLS prediction for Sunday. I have also trawled the top Major League Soccer betting sites to find the best MLS picks for Sunday, so make sure you check those out!

MLS Odds for Sunday, May 8, 2022

  • Vancouver Whitecaps (-112); Draw (+285); Toronto FC (+305)
  • Nashville SC (-145); Draw (+280); Real Salt Lake (+450)
  • Austin FC (+135); Draw (+265); LA Galaxy (+200)

The Major League Soccer odds at BetOnline favor Vancouver to claim the Canadian bragging rights against Toronto. As you can see, BetOnline also expects Nashville to make light work of Real Salt Lake.

However, the clash between Austin and LA Galaxy is destined to be a close-fought battle. Although Austin is the bookmakers’ favorite, the high price for the home win suggests that LA Galaxy could upset the MLS odds.

MLS Predictions for Sunday, May 8

You can find my Major League Soccer predictions for Sunday below. Once my predictions are out of the way, I will go over the top MLS betting picks for Sunday.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC Prediction

As we head into Week 10 of the 2022 Major League Soccer season, the Whitecaps find themselves rock bottom of the Western Conference with a measly four points to their name. That’s right – Vancouver has taken just four points from a possible 24 this year!

Vancouver has suffered six defeats in eight outings and comes into Sunday’s clash on a run of five losses in six games. To make matters worse for the Caps, they have the second-worst defensive record in the West.

Over in the East, Toronto occupies ninth place. Although the Reds have made an indifferent start to the season, they still lead Vancouver by seven points in the overall standings.

Only three teams in the entire league have scored more goals than Toronto this year. For that reason, I’m backing TFC to inflict another defeat on struggling Vancouver.

My Prediction for Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC: Toronto FC

Nashville SC vs. Real Salt Lake Prediction

Nashville heads into Week 10 with a record of W3-D3-L3. That tells you everything you need to know about the team’s inconsistency.

The Boys in Gold have already claimed impressive wins over Seattle, Columbus, and Sporting Kansas City in 2022. However, they have also been held by Minnesota, San Jose, and Philadelphia. It is difficult to predict how Nashville will fare on Sunday.

Like Nashville,
Real Salt Lake has endured something of an inconsistent season up to now. Granted, they have only lost two of their ten matches. But they have also recorded four draws.

Nashville and RSL have only faced each other on two occasions since the Tennessee outfit entered the league. The teams played out a goalless draw in the first meeting before RSL claimed a narrow 2-1 in the second encounter.

With that in mind, I can see this clash ending in a draw. There is very little to separate these two sides at the moment.

My Prediction for Nashville SC vs. Real Salt Lake: Draw

Austin FC vs. LA Galaxy Prediction

What the hell has happened to Austin FC?

Last season, the Texans finished second from bottom in the Western Conference after losing 21 of their 34 games. Fast-forward to today – they are sitting pretty in second place following a run of six wins in nine matches.

Thanks to the exploits of key players like Sebastian Driussi (7 goals, 2 assists) and Diego Fagundez (1 goal, 6 assists), Austin has scored more goals than any other team this year. Better still, only five sides have conceded fewer goals.

Granted, third-place La Galaxy trails second-place Austin by just four points in the West. But the Californians have netted 12 goals fewer than the Texans. Although Greg Vanney’s boys boast a slightly superior defensive record, I can see them falling to free-scoring Austin.

My Prediction for Austin FC vs. LA Galaxy: Austin FC

Best MLS Bets for Sunday, May 8, 2022

  • Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC – Toronto FC to Win (+305)
  • Nashville SC vs. Real Salt Lake – Under 2.5 Goals (-125)
  • Austin FC vs. LA Galaxy – Austin FC to Score Over 1.5 Goals (+100)

Since the Whitecaps sit rock bottom of the overall standings with only one win to their name, odds of +305 for Toronto to beat Vancouver are definitely worth taking advantage of.

Nashville and RSL have played a combined total of 19 MLS games this season, 12 of which have produced under 2.5 goals. For that reason, I expect Sunday’s clash between the teams to be a low-scoring affair.

Given that Austin has scored at least two goals in six of their nine MLS outings this year, I’m backing them to net over 1.5 goals against the Galaxy. Let’s not forget that Josh Wolff’s men are the league’s top scorers.

That concludes my Major League Soccer predictions and picks for Sunday, May 8. If you enjoyed this post, why not check out my MLS predictions and picks for Saturday’s games?
