Major League Soccer Predictions and Picks – Sunday, May 29 (2022)

The Major League Soccer action continues this Sunday, May 29, with two tasty matchups on the schedule. LA Galaxy and Austin meet for a top-five clash in the Western Conference, while Seattle hosts Charlotte in the late kick-off.

Although Austin leads the Galaxy by four points in the Western Conference, Greg Vanney’s men have the home-field advantage on their side. It is also worth noting that Charlotte has accumulated three points more than Seattle this year.

Now that we’re up to speed with the latest MLS odds, it’s time to get stuck into my MLS predictions for Saturday, May 29.

The Galaxy made an impressive start to the 2022 MLS season, losing just two of their opening eight games. Thanks to wins over New York City, Charlotte, Portland, LAFC, and Nashville, Vanney’s men were in a strong position.

But they have failed to replicate their early-season form in recent weeks. Indeed, the Californians have managed to win just one of their previous five MLS outings – suffering three defeats in the process.

Meanwhile, Austin recorded a 2-2 draw against Orlando last time out. That means the Texans find themselves second in the Western Conference – two points behind first-place LAFC.

Josh Wolff’s boys have lost just three of their 13 MLS games this season, picking up seven wins and three draws along the way. Consequently, they are among the bookies’ favorites to win the 2022 MLS Cup.

We all know that Austin endured a nightmare debut campaign in Major League Soccer, but they are a totally different team this year. In fact, they are only seven points shy of last season’s points total – and they still have 20 games to play!

The Texans are a different animal this season, so I can see them frustrating the Galaxy. Vanney’s men won’t go down without a fight, though, so I expect this clash to end in a draw.

By their own high standards, the Sounders have made a below-par start to 2022. Granted, they recently became the first MLS club to win the CONCACAF Champions League. But their domestic performances have suffered as a result.

Having taken four wins, one draw, and six losses from their first 11 MLS games, Brian Schmetzer’s men find themselves third from bottom in the West. Still, they have multiple games in hand over every other side in the conference.

On the flip side, Charlotte has made a steady start to life in Major League Soccer. The newcomers have registered five wins, one draw, and seven losses up to now, cementing seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

Charlotte has already produced numerous standout displays. Karol Swiderski bagged back-to-back braces against New England and Cincinnati earlier in the season, while Daniel Rois and Cristian Ortiz have also starred.

In my eyes, this matchup provides the Sounders with the perfect opportunity to kick-start their campaign. Anything other than a comfortable home win would be a big shock here.

I predicted that the Galaxy and Austin will play out a draw in Los Angeles, but the draw bet is always a risky option. Instead, I recommend opting for the over 3.5 goals wager.

As for Seattle vs. Charlotte, odds of -165 for the Sounders to win aren’t bad. But if you’re looking for a juicier price, why not throw the –1 handicap into the mix? Let’s face it – nobody would be shocked if Seattle thrashed Charlotte.
