Major League Soccer Predictions and Picks – Sunday, June 26 (2022)
It seems as though Major League Soccer has saved the best for last this weekend. We may only have three MLS games to bet on this Sunday, June 26, but they are all standout clashes.
In terms of the overall standings, four of the top six are in action on Sunday – Los Angeles FC, New York City, New York Red Bulls, and Philadelphia Union. Elsewhere, reigning Supporters’ Shield winner New England travels north to face Vancouver.
You can find my MLS predictions for Sunday below, along with my recommended betting picks. First, let’s inspect Sunday’s MLS odds to see where the early value lies.
MLS Odds for Sunday, June 26, 2022
Here are Sunday’s Major League Soccer odds, courtesy of BetOnline.
- Los Angeles FC (+102); Draw (+288); New York Red Bulls (+255)
- Philadelphia Union (+158); Draw (+248); New York City (+178)
- Vancouver Whitecaps (+170); Draw (+278); New England Revolution (+150)
LAFC and Philadelphia are both favored to win on home soil this weekend. That said, the high prices for the home victories suggest that RBNY and NYCFC will give their respective opponents a run for their money.
The odds for Vancouver Whitecaps vs. New England Revolution are very tight, although BetOnline views the Revs as narrow favorites. It is worth noting that New England leads Vancouver by just three points in the overall standings.
Right, it’s time to go over my MLS predictions for Sunday.
MLS Predictions for Sunday, June 26
Without further ado, let’s dive into Sunday’s Major League Soccer predictions. Once my predictions are out of the way, I will wrap things up by sharing my top MLS picks for Sunday.
Los Angeles FC vs. New York Red Bulls Prediction
This matchup brings together first in the Western Conference and second in the Eastern Conference. Needless to say, this is destined to be a close-fought battle.
Los Angeles FC leads RBNY by four points in the overall standings. It is also worth pointing out that LAFC has a game in hand over the Red Bulls. Still, the visitors will be confident of frustrating their hosts on Sunday.
As for the Red Bulls, they have won seven of their 16 games – recording five draws and four defeats in the process. They have conceded the same number of goals as LAFC (17), although they have scored four fewer.
Both sides have won two of their last three MLS outings. However, the Red Bulls have lost two of their previous four. With that in mind, I can see LAFC edging this one.
Philadelphia Union vs. New York City Prediction
First-place New York City and third-place Philadelphia are separated by a solitary point at the top end of the Eastern Conference. It is not inconceivable that one of these sides could clinch the MLS Cup on November 5.
NYCFC heads into Sunday’s clash on a nine-game unbeaten streak in MLS, having picked up seven wins and two draws since their last loss in the league. However, they suffered a 3-0 defeat to RBNY in the US Open Cup in midweek.
On the flip side, the Union has suffered a single defeat in 15 MLS games this season. But after registering a league-high eight draws, Philly sits sixth in the overall standings – four points shy of first-place LAFC.
Remarkably, Jim Curtin’s men have drawn seven of their past eight league matches. Although they are more than capable of avoiding defeat on Sunday, I can’t see them claiming all three points when the defending champs come to town.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs. New England Revolution Prediction
It wouldn’t be unfair to say Vancouver made a dreadful start to the 2022 campaign. The Whitecaps lost six of their first eight encounters, picking up a solitary victory in the process.
Since then, however, the Canadians have looked like a totally different team. Not only have they won three of their last four Major League Soccer clashes, but they have also won five of their previous eight.
Adam Buksa (11 goals, 2 assists) and Carles Gil (7 goals, 9 assists) have played key roles in New England’s turnaround. Sadly, Buksa will join French side Lens next month. But Gil is still one of the best in the business.
Granted, the Caps have upped their game in recent weeks. But so have the Revs. I’m backing the 2021 Supporters Shield winners to seal the deal on Sunday.
Best MLS Bets Saturday, June 26, 2022
- Los Angeles FC vs. New York Red Bulls – Los Angeles FC to Win (+102)
- Philadelphia Union vs. New York City – Under 2.5 Goals (-111)
- Vancouver Whitecaps vs. New England Revolution – New England Revolution to Win and Both Teams to Score (+333)
LAFC has been the best team in Major League Soccer this season. With that in mind, backing the Californians to beat the Red Bulls is a no-brainer – especially with the odds at +102.
I predicted that Philly and NYCFC will play out a draw on Sunday, but the draw is always a risky bet. Instead, I recommend opting for the under 2.5 goals wager. Three of Philly’s 15 games have produced over 2.5 goals this year, while five of NYCFC’s have dished up over 2.5 goals.
