Major League Soccer Predictions and Picks – Sunday, July 24 (2022)
It’s second in the West against third in the East this Sunday, July 24, as Austin FC hosts the New York Red Bulls. In Sunday’s other Major League Soccer clash, Atlanta United visits the LA Galaxy.
Read on to discover my MLS predictions and betting picks for Sunday. Before we get stuck in those predictions and picks, though, we need to inspect the latest MLS odds – courtesy of BetOnline.
MLS Odds for Sunday, July 24, 2022
- Austin FC (+160); Draw (+241); New York Red Bulls (+180)
- LA Galaxy (-130); Draw (+311); Atlanta United (+340)
As you can see, BetOnline’s MLS odds favor the home teams. That said, the clash between Austin and the Red Bulls is expected to be much more of a close-fought battle than the Galaxy and Atlanta’s showdown.
Ultimately, it is difficult to argue with Sunday’s MLS odds. While Austin and RBNY are flying high in their respective conferences, Atlanta is languishing in eleventh place in the East.
Anyway, it’s time to go over my MLS predictions for Sunday, July 24.
MLS Predictions for Sunday, July 24
Here are Sunday’s MLS predictions. Let’s start with my Austin FC vs. New York Red Bulls prediction before tackling my LA Galaxy vs. Atlanta United prediction. I will then share my recommended MLS picks for Sunday, July 24.
Austin FC vs. New York Red Bulls Prediction
Although second-place Austin and third-place RBNY are in strong positions in their respective conferences, it is worth pointing out that Austin sits eight points clear of the Red Bulls in the overall standings.
The Texans have lost just four of their 21 games this year, securing 12 wins and five draws along the way. Meanwhile, the Red Bulls have lost six of their 21 clashes – picking up nine wins and six draws.
It is also worth noting that Josh Wolff’s boys are the top scorers in the league. Having netted a whopping 42 goals this season, Austin averages exactly two goals per game in 2022.
On the flip side, the Red Bulls have scored 30 goals this season – 12 fewer than Austin. Lewis Morgan has been the star of the show for his side, bagging nine goals and three assists.
It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Gerhard Struber’s men have struggled for consistency in recent months. In fact, they have registered four wins, four draws, and four losses across the past 12 rounds.
By contrast, Austin heads into Sunday’s clash on a seven-game unbeaten streak. Having won five and drawn two of their previous seven outings, I expect the in-form Texans to dispatch the inconsistent New Yorkers.
LA Galaxy vs. Atlanta United Prediction
There is no hiding the fact that this matchup brings together two teams in poor form. Indeed, both sides have managed to win just two of their previous ten games.
The Galaxy comes into this clash on a three-game losing streak, having fallen to LAFC (3-2), San Jose (3-2), and Colorado (2-0). They also suffered heavy defeats to Houston (3-0) and Minnesota (3-2) in May and June, respectively.
In addition to struggling defensively of late, the Californians have been toothless in attack. As a result, only five teams in the Western Conference have scored fewer goals than the Galaxy’s 28 this year.
In fairness, Atlanta has struggled for goals, too. Having scored 29 and conceded 31, the Five Stripes have a depressing goal difference of –2. Oh, and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their past six outings.
Gonzalo Pineda’s boys have only managed to win one of their previous six encounters, registering two draws and three defeats in the process. So, have they really got what it takes to beat the Galaxy?
Having taken everything into consideration, I can see this clash ending in a draw. Since both sides are struggling for form at the moment, they will be happy to settle for a point apiece.
Top MLS Picks for Sunday, July 24
Now that you’ve had my MLS predictions for Sunday, it’s time to go over my recommended MLS picks. I suggest using only the best Major League Soccer betting sites if you’re wagering on Sunday’s clashes.
I can’t fault the price for the Austin win here. The Texans are enjoying a phenomenal season, so I’m more than happy to back them at +160 to beat the Red Bulls.
I predicted that LA Galaxy vs. Atlanta United will end in a draw, but the draw is always a risky option. Instead, I’m going with the over 2.5 goals wager. This season, 15 of Atlanta’s 20 MLS games have produced over 2.5 goals.
