Major League Soccer Predictions and Picks – Saturday, May 21 (2022)

| May 19, 2022 5:44 am PDT

The Major League Soccer action is coming thick and fast at the moment. Following an eventual round of midweek games, we have four clashes to get our teeth into on Saturday, May 21.

Columbus Crew, Los Angeles FC, DC United, Toronto FC, FC Cincinnati, New England Revolution, Nashville SC, and Atlanta United are the teams in action this Saturday. Who will come out on top in Week 13?

Read on to discover my MLS predictions for Saturday, May 21. I will also be going over the top Major League Soccer betting picks for Saturday, so make sure you stick around until the end.

MLS Odds (Saturday, May 21, 2022)

  • Columbus Crew (+140); Draw (+235); Los Angeles FC (+195)
  • DC United (-179); Draw (+340); Toronto FC (+440)
  • FC Cincinnati (+200); Draw (+255); New England Revolution (+128)
  • Nashville SC (+105); Draw (+240); Atlanta United (+275)

Columbus, DC United, and Nashville are favored to secure home wins on Saturday. As you can see, New England is the sole away favorite. But can in-form Cincinnati upset the MLS odds?

It is worth noting that sixth-place Cincinnati leads eleventh-place New England by seven points in the Eastern Conference. That alone makes Cincy’s price of +200 look very attractive.

MLS Predictions for Saturday, May 21

Without further ado, let’s get stuck into my Major League Soccer predictions for this Saturday. We may have just four games on the schedule, but there are still plenty of opportunities to win money.

Columbus Crew vs. Los Angeles FC Prediction

Columbus sits tenth in the Eastern Conference after picking up just three wins across the first 11 games. It goes without saying that the 2020 MLS Cup champions have made a below-par start to the season.

To make matters worse for the Crew, they have lost five of their previous eight matches in all competitions.

On the flip side, LAFC is second in the Western Conference and ten points clear of Columbus in the overall standings. Despite losing their past two outings, Steve Cherundolo’s men remain in a seriously strong position.

Only one team – Austin FC – has scored more goals than LAFC this year. For that reason, I’m backing the Californians to return to winning ways on Saturday.

Prediction for Columbus Crew vs. Los Angeles FC: Los Angeles FC

DC United vs. Toronto FC Prediction

Toronto FC is in a real mess.

Not only have the Canadians lost each of their last five games, but they have also failed to score in their previous three. Following toothless defeats against Cincinnati, Vancouver, and Orlando, they find themselves second from bottom in the East.

As for DC United, they have won three of their past seven games across all competitions. Despite falling to New York City on Wednesday, they appear to be heading in the right direction following the sacking of Hernan Losada.

I expect the Black-and-Red to inflict a sixth straight defeat on Toronto this weekend.

Prediction for DC United vs. Toronto FC: DC United

FC Cincinnati vs. New England Revolution Prediction

All of a sudden, FC Cincinnati looks like a force to be reckoned with.

After securing back-to-back wins over Toronto, the Ohioans dispatched Minnesota United before getting the better of Chicago Fire last weekend. Consequently, they come into Week 13 on a four-game winning streak.

That said, it is important to remember that New England clinched last year’s Supporters’ Shield in record-breaking style. Although the Revs are seven points behind Cincy, they have more than enough firepower to make a resurgence.

With that in mind, I’m backing this clash to end in a draw. Cincy will be confident of sealing five straight wins, but the Revs will fancy their chances of extending their unbeaten streak to four games.

Prediction for FC Cincinnati vs. New England Revolution: Draw

Nashville SC vs. Atlanta United Prediction

Thanks to an impressive 2-1 victory over high-flying CF Montreal on Wednesday, Nashville occupies sixth place in the Western Conference. The Boys in Gold have now won three of their last four outings in all competitions.

By contrast, the Five Stripes have managed to win just one of their previous five matches across all competitions. It is also worth pointing out that Atlanta fell to Nashville in the US Open Cup last week.

While Atlanta has struggled for form in recent weeks, Gary Smith’s men have upped their game. That’s why I’m confident that Nashville will secure all three points on home soil this weekend.

Prediction for Nashville SC vs. Atlanta United: Nashville SC

Top MLS Picks for Saturday, May 21

Columbus Crew vs. Los Angeles FC – Los Angeles FC to Win+195
DC United vs. Toronto FC – Both Teams to Score-167
FC Cincinnati vs. New England Revolution – Over 2.5 Goals-167
Nashville SC vs. Atlanta United – Nashville SC to Win+105

The generous prices for LAFC to beat Columbus and Nashville to beat Atlanta are definitely worth taking advantage of. Granted, LAFC is away from home. But the Californians have been one of the best all-round teams this year.

In my eyes, the BTTS wager is the best bet for DC United vs. Toronto FC. Both teams have scored in nine of Toronto’s 12 games this season, meaning 75% of their clashes have produced goals at both ends of the field.

Lastly, I recommended opting for the over 2.5 goals market for the clash between Cincy and New England. Eight of New England’s 11 games this season have dished up over 2.5 goals, while seven of Cincy’s have produced three or more.
