MLS Predictions for Saturday, May 14

It’s time to get stuck into Saturday’s Major League Soccer predictions. Below, I cover three standout clashes in detail before providing the rest of my MLS predictions for Saturday, May 14.

Colorado Rapids vs. Los Angeles FC Prediction

Last weekend, Los Angeles FC came from behind on two occasions to register a 2-2 draw with Philadelphia Union. Despite racking up 67% possession and 22 shots, the Western Conference leaders were frustrated by the frontrunners in the East.

Still, LAFC remains three points clear atop the West after suffering a solitary defeat in ten games this year. Thanks to three straight wins over Sporting Kansas City, FC Cincinnati, and Minnesota United, LAFC heads into Week 11 of a four-game unbeaten streak.

By contrast,
the Rapids have only managed to win one of their last seven outings. They have also lost three of their previous five, having fallen to San Jose Earthquakes last time out.

Only four teams in the West have netted fewer goals than Colorado this season (11). On the flip side, Steve Cherundolo’s men are the top scorers in the entire league (23).

All the signs point towards a big away win here.

My Prediction for Colorado Rapids vs. Los Angeles FC: Los Angeles FC to Win

New York City vs. Columbus Crew Prediction

Like LAFC, New York City comes into the Week 11 on a four-match unbeaten run. Following high-scoring victories over Real Salt Lake (6-1), Toronto FC (4-5), and San Jose (3-0), NYCFC was held to a goalless draw by Sporting KC in Week 10.

2021 Golden Boot winner Valentin Castellanos has already scored five goals this year, while Thiago Andrade has chipped in with four. On top of that, Uruguayan loanee Santiago Rodriguez has contributed two goals and three assists!

Having recorded three wins, four draws, and three losses, ninth-place Columbus trails sixth-place NYCFC by one point in the East. It is worth noting that New York City has a game in hand over the Crew.

Columbus has yet to win on the road in 2022, picking up four draws and one defeat. Conversely, the defending MLS Cup champions have been immense on home soil – winning four of their six home games while scoring 18 goals.

I’m confident that NYCFC will secure a fourth victory in five home games this weekend.

My Prediction for New York City vs. Columbus Crew: New York City to Win

Chicago Fire vs. FC Cincinnati Prediction

All of a sudden, Chicago Fire is rock bottom of the Eastern Conference.

Ezra Hendrickson’s boys kicked off their campaign with a five-game unbeaten streak, conceding a solitary goal in the process. But after last weekend’s 4-1 defeat to Atlanta United, they are now enduring a six-match winless run.

Believe it or not,
FC Cincinnati is enjoying a three-game winning streak. After sealing back-to-back victories over Toronto, the perennial losers claimed a dramatic late win against Minnesota at Allianz Field last time out.

Brandon Vazquez scored the winner against Minnesota, meaning he has bagged six goals and two assists in ten MLS appearances this year. Consequently, only three players sit above Vazquez on the Golden Boot leaderboard.

Call me crazy, but I’m backing Cincy to notch a fourth successive win on Saturday.

My Prediction for Chicago Fire vs. FC Cincinnati: FC Cincinnati to Win

More Major League Soccer Predictions for Saturday, May 14

  • Orlando City to Beat Toronto FC
  • Vancouver Whitecaps and San Jose Earthquakes to Draw
  • CF Montreal to Beat Charlotte FC
  • Philadelphia Union and New York Red Bulls to Draw
  • DC United to Beat Inter Miami
  • Nashville SC to Beat Houston Dynamo
  • Real Salt Lake and Austin FC to Draw
  • Portland Timbers to Beat Sporting Kansas City
  • LA Galaxy to Beat FC Dallas

Toronto heads into Week 11 on a four-game losing streak, so I expect Orlando City to claim all three points on Saturday. I’m also confident that Montreal will be Charlotte, given that Montreal is on a seven-game unbeaten run.

Elsewhere, I’m backing Portland and LA Galaxy to win on home soil. The Galaxy has picked up six wins from ten encounters this season, while the Timbers face a Sporting KC outfit that has registered just two victories in 11 outings.

Top MLS Picks for Saturday, May 14, 2022

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. San Jose Earthquakes – Over 2.5 Goals-118
CF Montreal vs. Charlotte FC – Both Teams to Score-154
Inter Miami vs. DC United – DC United to Win+180
Portland Timbers vs. Sporting Kansas City – Portland Timbers to Win+100

Vancouver and San Jose have played a combined total of 19 MLS games this season, 13 of which have produced over 2.5 goals. There are bound to be plenty of goals when they go head-to-head this weekend.

Given that both teams have scored in nine of Montreal’s ten MLS games this year, the BTTS wager is the best bet for Montreal vs. Charlotte.

Inter Miami heads into Week 11 on a two-game losing run, while DC United has picked up two wins across the past three weeks. With that in mind, odds of +163 for DC to beat Miami are worth taking advantage of.

I’m also backing Portland to get the better of Kanas City. While the Timbers have lost one of their last five matches, the Wizards have failed to win any of their previous six.
