Los Angeles FC will have the chance to extend their lead atop the Western Conference when they visit Vancouver on Saturday, July 2. Elsewhere, the Sounders will be looking to heap more misery on struggling Toronto FC.

Read on to discover my MLS predictions for Saturday, July 2. I have also trawled the best Major League Soccer betting sites to find the top MLS picks for Saturday’s games. You can find my picks after my predictions.

MLS Odds for Saturday, July 2, 2022

Here are the Major League Soccer odds for Saturday, July 2, courtesy of Betway.

  • Toronto FC (+162); Draw (+260); Seattle Sounders (+137)
  • Vancouver Whitecaps (+220); Draw (+275); Los Angeles FC (+100)

As you can see, Betway expects the clash between Toronto and Seattle to be a close-fought battle. Although Seattle is the marginal favorite, TFC is expected to put up a solid fight on home soil.

Meanwhile, LAFC is favored to get the better of the Whitecaps. That said, the high price for the away win suggests that Vancouver will give the Western Conference leaders a run for their money.

Now that we’ve assessed Saturday’s MLS odds, it’s time to make some predictions.

MLS Predictions for Saturday, July 2

Let’s jump into my Major League Soccer predictions for Saturday, July 2.

Toronto FC vs. Seattle Sounders Prediction

Despite racking up 19 shots and 64% possession, Toronto suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Columbus on Wednesday. That tells you everything you need to know about how TFC’s season is going.

The Reds have lost nine of their 17 MLS outings this year, picking up five wins and three draws in the process. As a result, they find themselves third from bottom in the Eastern Conference – four points ahead of last-place DC United.

It is also worth noting that Toronto has the worst defensive record in the East. Having conceded 32 goals in 17 games (1.9 goals per game), the club’s playoff hopes are dwindling.

MOST GOALS CONCEDED – EASTERN CONFERENCE (2022)

  • Toronto FC – 32
  • FC Cincinnati – 30
  • CF Montreal – 29
  • DC United – 27
  • New England Revolution – 26

Funnily enough, the Sounders also dominated their previous game but ended up losing 2-1. Brian Schmetzer’s boys enjoyed the lion’s share of possession after Jordan Morris’ early opener, but a Mason Toye double saw Montreal snatch the points.

However, we shouldn’t forget that Seattle headed into the midweek fixture on a four-game unbeaten streak. Not only did they beat Charlotte (2-1), Vancouver (4-0), and Sporting KC (3-0), but they also held LAFC to a 1-1 draw.

When you look at the bigger picture, the Sounders have won five of their past eight MLS games. They scored 15 goals during that period, conceding just six.

Despite Wednesday’s loss, Seattle remains a top-seven team in the West. With games in hand over many of their rivals, Schmetzer’s boys will be confident of cementing a playoff spot in the coming weeks.

That said, the Sounders have lost three of their last four away games. On the flip side, the Reds have won two of their previous three home games. With that in mind, I can see them sharing the points on Saturday.

My Prediction for Toronto FC vs. Seattle Sounders: Draw

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Los Angeles FC Prediction

LAFC extended their lead at the summit of the overall standings to SEVEN points with a 3-1 victory over FC Dallas on Wednesday. Danny Musovski got the ball rolling before Cristian Arango and Kwadwo Opoku completed the scoring in the second half.

The Californians have now won four of their previous five league outings, scoring 11 goals in the process. Can anyone stop them from securing the Supporters’ Shield? I don’t think so.

In terms of the season, Steve Cherundolo’s have lost just three of their 17 MLS clashes – notching 11 wins and three draws. Better still, they are the top scorers in the entire league.

MOST GOALS SCORED – MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER (2022)

  • Los Angeles FC – 35
  • CF Montreal – 32
  • Austin FC – 31
  • New York City – 31

Carlos Vela has bagged six goals and six assists in Major League Soccer this year, while Cristian Arango has contributed six goals and two assists. The arrival of Gareth Bale is only going to increase the team’s output.

As for the Whitecaps, they head into Saturday’s clash on a run of one defeat in five games. Better still, they have only lost two of their previous nine MLS encounters.

The Canadians managed to win just one of their first eight matches, suffering six defeats along the way. Due to their dreadful start to the season, they find themselves eleventh in the West – 15 points behind LAFC.

Granted, the Caps have upped their game recently. But LAFC is on a totally different planet right now. For that reason, I expect the Californians to leave Canada with all three points in the bag.

My Prediction for Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Los Angeles FC: Los Angeles FC to Win

Saturday’s Best MLS Betting Picks

  • Toronto FC vs. Seattle Sounders – Both Teams to Score (-134)
  • Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Los Angeles FC – Los Angeles FC to Win (+100)

Although I predicted that TFC and Seattle will draw on Saturday, I believe the BTTS wager is the best value bet. Both teams have scored in 13 of Toronto’s 17 MLS games this year – that’s 76%!

Given that you can double your money, backing LAFC to beat Vancouver is a no-brainer for me. Not only have the Californians won four of their last five games, but they have also won 11 of their 17 MLS clashes this season.
