MLS Predictions for Saturday, July 16

Here are my Major League Soccer predictions for Saturday, July 16, 2022. If you enjoy my predictions, make sure you stick around for Saturday’s MLS picks at the end.

CF Montreal to Beat Toronto FC

Toronto heads into the Canadian Classique on the back of a humiliating 2-0 defeat to Chicago. Consequently, the Reds find themselves second from bottom in the Eastern Conference – ten points behind fourth-place Montreal.

Wilfried Nancy’s men have enjoyed a hugely impressive season up to now, winning almost 50% of their games. They are also the fourth-highest scorers in the league, having netted 33 goals in 19 outings (1.7 goals per game).

Given that Bob Bradley’s boys have lost four of their previous six MLS encounters, I’m confident that Montreal will claim the Canadian bragging rights on Saturday.

Philadelphia Union to Beat New England Revolution

Thanks to a midweek victory over Inter Miami, Philadelphia sits one point clear atop the Eastern Conference. Believe it or not, Jim Curtin’s men have lost just two of their 20 MLS games this year.

Meanwhile, ninth-place New England trails high-flying Philly by nine points. The Revs were thrashed 4-2 by New York City last time out, meaning they have only managed to win two of their previous eight clashes in all competitions.

It is also worth noting that Philadelphia boasts the best defensive record in the entire league, having conceded a measly 14 goals this season. I expect the Union to notch three straight wins this weekend.

Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders to Draw

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Seattle has been one of the most inconsistent teams in Major League Soccer this year. After losing three of their last four games, the Sounders have a record of 8-2-9.

Granted, Chicago trails Seattle by six points in the overall standings. But Ezra Hendrickson’s boys have upped their game recently – winning three of their last six encounters. That’s why I’m backing them to hold Seattle to a draw.

Charlotte FC to Beat Inter Miami

Inter Miami appeared to have turned the corner when they chalked up a run of one loss in seven MLS games between mid-May and early July. However, they head into Week 21 on a three-game winless streak after recording one draw and two defeats.

As for Charlotte, they travel to Florida on a two-game winning run. Following big victories over Houston Dynamo (2-1) and Nashville SC (4-1), the MLS newcomers look set to enjoy even more success against struggling Miami.

Minnesota United to Beat DC United

Across the past five rounds, only two sides have picked up more points than Minnesota United. The Loons secured three straight wins against the Galaxy (3-2), Real Salt Lake (3-2), and Vancouver Whitecaps (3-1) before drawing with Sporting Kansas City.

By contrast, DC United sits rock bottom of the overall standings with a record of 5-3-10. To make matters worse, no team has conceded more goals than DC this year. Free-scoring Minnesota should make light work of lowly DC.

Colorado Rapids and LA Galaxy to Draw

Having suffered three defeats across the previous four rounds, the Galaxy is on the slide. When you look at the bigger picture, Jim Curtin’s men have only managed to win two of their last nine MLS outings – registering five losses in the process.

Although the Rapids trail the Galaxy by six points, they will be confident of capitalizing on the Californians’ poor form. The Rapids have drawn three of their past five games, so I can see them snatching a point on Saturday.

Austin FC to Beat FC Dallas

Can anyone stop Austin FC right now?

Thanks to goals from Diego Fagundez, Maxi Urruti, and Alexander Ring, Austin beat Houston 3-1 in midweek. Urruti (7 goals, 2 assists) and Fagundez (4 goals, 8 assists) have been immense this year. But not as immense as Sebastian Driussi (11 goals, 5 assists)!

Josh Wolff’s boys find themselves atop the overall standings after winning each of their last four games. Since the Toros have failed to win any of their previous six, I fully expect Wolff’s boys to extend their winning streak to five games this weekend.

Top MLS Picks for Saturday, July 16, 2022

I have trawled the best Major League Soccer betting sites to find the top MLS picks for Saturday, July 16. In my eyes, the wagers below are the best value bets for Saturday.

  • CF Montreal vs. Toronto FC – CF Montreal to Win and Over 2.5 Goals (+130)
  • Philadelphia Union vs. New England Revolution – Under 2.5 Goals (+100)
  • FC Dallas vs. Austin FC – Austin FC to Win (+300)

The first of my MLS picks concerns the Canadian Classique. Montreal is priced at -145 to beat Toronto, but I expect the hosts to enjoy a high-scoring win. 15 of Montreal’s 19 MLS games have dished up over 2.5 goals this year.

By contrast, only six of Philly’s 20 MLS games have produced over 2.5 goals this season. Since Curtin’s men boast the best defensive record in the league, I can see them and New England combining for fewer than three goals.

Last but not least, I’m backing Austin to beat Dallas. Wolff’s boys have won five of their last six games, while Dallas is on a six-game winless run. At +300, this is an opportunity too good to miss.
