We have a whopping 12 Major League Soccer games to bet on this Saturday, July 23. With a ton of clashes to cover, I thought it would be a good idea to publish my MLS predictions early this week.

In addition to sharing my predictions, I will be going over the top MLS picks for Saturday’s games. Before we get to those predictions and picks, let’s inspect the latest MLS odds – courtesy of BetOnline.

  • Columbus Crew (+120) vs. New England Revolution (+231)
  • FC Cincinnati (+140) vs. Nashville SC (+210)
  • Orlando City (+145) vs. Philadelphia Union (+187)
  • Toronto FC (+108) vs. Charlotte FC (+245)
  • DC United (+138) vs. CF Montreal (+187)

As you can see, Los Angeles FC is the only away favorite here. All the other games have home favorites, with New York City and Portland Timbers expected to make light work of their respective visitors.

MLS Predictions for Saturday, July 23

It’s time to get stuck into my Major League Soccer predictions for Saturday, July 23. Below, I cover four standout games in detail before going over the remainder of Saturday’s MLS predictions.

Let’s kick things off with my New York City vs. Inter Miami prediction and work our way through the rest.

New York City to Beat Inter Miami

New York City heads into Week 22 on the back of a 1-0 victory over the Red Bulls in the Hudson River Derby. Having won each of their past three games, the defending MLS Cup champions sit second in the Eastern Conference – one point shy of Philadelphia.

When you look at the bigger picture, the New Yorkers have lost just one of their previous 15 MLS encounters. Across the past 15 rounds, no team has picked up more points than New York City.

On the flip side, Inter Miami trails NYCFC by 13 points. The Herons have lost nine of their 20 league outings this season, so I’m confident that New York City will claim all three points this weekend.

Columbus Crew to Beat New England Revolution

Only two Eastern Conference teams have accumulated more points than Columbus across the previous ten rounds. Better still, the Crew heads into Week 22 on an eight-game unbeaten streak – having secured four wins and four draws.

Cucho Hernandez has hit the ground running following his move from English side Watford, netting four goals in three games. Lucas Zelarayan (5 goals, 9 assists) and Derrick Etienne (5 goals, 5 assists) have also been immense this year.

As for the Revs, they find themselves tenth in the Eastern Conference after failing to win any of their last four games. They also have the fourth-worst defensive record in the East, so I expect the Crew’s in-form attackers to enjoy plenty of success on Saturday.

CF Montreal to Beat DC United

DC United remains rooted at the foot of the overall standings after suffering an eleventh defeat in 19 games last weekend. It goes without saying that Wayne Rooney has his work cut out in Washington.

At the opposite end of the standings, Montreal sits seventh – 14 points clear of DC. The Canadians have won ten of their 20 clashes this season, meaning no team in the East has claimed more victories in 2022.

It is also worth noting that Montreal boasts the second-best offensive record in the conference. Given that DC United has the worst defensive record, the Canadians shouldn’t struggle to take the W this weekend.

Minnesota United to Beat Houston Dynamo

All of a sudden, Minnesota United occupies fourth place in the Western Conference. There was a time earlier in the season when it looked like the Loons would miss out on the playoffs altogether. But they have turned things around in style.

Adrian Heath’s men have won four of their last five games, scoring 12 goals during that period. Believe it or not, Emanuel Reynoso has bagged three braces in his previous five appearances!

By contrast, Houston has managed to pick up just two wins across the past eight rounds – suffering five defeats along the way. Given their contrasting form, I can’t see the Texans troubling Minnesota on Saturday.

More MLS Predictions for Saturday, July 23

  • Nashville SC to Beat FC Cincinnati
  • Orlando City and Philadelphia Union to Draw
  • Charlotte FC to Beat Toronto FC
  • Los Angeles FC to Beat Sporting Kansas City
  • Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas to Draw
  • Seattle Sounders to Beat Colorado Rapids
  • Vancouver Whitecaps to Beat Chicago Fire
  • Portland Timbers to Beat San Jose Earthquakes

I’m backing Seattle, Vancouver, and Portland to win on home soil this weekend. Elsewhere, I’m backing Nashville, Charlotte, and LAFC to win on the road.

I also expect both Nashville SC vs. FC Cincinnati and Real Salt Lake vs. FC Dallas to end in a draw. Nashville leads Cincy by just three points in the overall standings, while RSL and Dallas are separated by six points.

Top MLS Picks for Saturday, July 23, 2022

Columbus Crew vs. New England Revolution – Columbus Crew to Win+120
DC United vs. CF Montreal – Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals-111
Sporting Kansas City vs. Los Angeles FC – Los Angeles FC to Win+133
Portland Timbers vs. San Jose Earthquakes – Over 3.5 Goals+125

I’m more than happy to back Columbus and LAFC at +120 and +133, respectively. The Crew is on an eight-game unbeaten streak, while first-place LAFC leads last-place SKC by 22 points in the Western Conference.

I expect both teams to score and combine for over 2.5 goals when DC United hosts Montreal. Both teams have scored in 15 of Montreal’s 20 MLS games this year. On top of that, DC has the worst defensive record in the East.

This season, games involving San Jose average 3.7 goals. The Quakes score plenty of goals, but they also concede truckloads at the opposite end of the field. I expect their clash with Portland to be a high-scoring encounter.
