Mahoning Valley Race Course Betting Picks – Tuesday, February 9, 2021

Mahoning Valley Race Course brings us a full slate of maiden, allowance, and claiming races on Tuesday’s eight-race card for our wagering and entertainment.
Mahoning is open to spectators, and if you plan to watch the races live, expect snow showers and temperatures below freezing, along with winds around eight mph.
That said, remember that while I review the richest three races at Mahoning Valley, you can find their complete eight-race card for Tuesday — including entries, jockeys, and wagering options — at one of our recommended online racebooks.
Whichever way you decide to enjoy the competition, read on for my Mahoning Valley Race Course picks and tips for Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
Pick for Race 3 at Mahoning Valley Race Course
This is an allowance race for Ohio-bred fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $29,000.
I’m going with the 2/1 morning line favorite in this race — Fricka, with Luis R. Rivera in the irons. This three-year-old filly moneyed five of her six career starts, winning one.
There are three long-odds entries in this race, but none of them give any indication they will finish anywhere near the money.
- Win: Fricka 2/1
Pick for Race 5 at Mahoning Valley Race Course
This is an allowance race for Ohio-bred fillies and mares three-years-old and upward, running a distance of one mile for a purse of $30,500.
I like the third-favored (9/2) entry for this race — Biscayne Bay, with Luan Machado aboard. This four-year-old filly finished in the money seven of her 12 career starts, winning three.
For comparison’s sake, the 5/2 morning line favorite has a record of 17 money finishes in 35 starts, four of those wins.
None of the longer-odds entries look likely to finish in the money, so save yours for later.
- Win: Biscayne Bay 9/2
Pick for Race 6 at Mahoning Valley Race Course
This is an allowance race for Ohio-bred fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $29,000.
I’m going to have to agree with the morning line here and bet the 2/1 favorite — Lexy Anna, ridden by Luis R. Rivera. This four-year-old filly moneyed five of her ten career starts, winning one.
I see no long-odds entries in this race worth the risk of a show bet.
- Win: Lexy Anna 2/1
