Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers – College Football, December 19, 2020

| December 17, 2020 10:39 am PDT

Jamey Chadwell and his crew in Conway deserve to be commended. One year after finishing 5-7, the Chanticleers are staring at a golden opportunity to stamp their ticket into an NY6 bowl game. A win over Louisiana in the Sun Belt Championship Game will make it awfully hard for the committee to leave out a 12-0 team.

Meanwhile, the 19th-ranked Rajin’ Cajuns are seeking revenge against CCU as they aim for their 10th victory of the year.

Here’s a Louisiana vs. Coastal Carolina prediction for Saturday’s showdown.

Louisiana vs. Coastal Carolina Odds

Louisiana (+3.5)-115
Coastal Carolina (-3.5)-105
Louisiana to Win+145
Coastal Carolina to Win-165
Over 55-110
Under 55-110

The Chanticleers edged LA-Lafayette out by a field goal (30-27) back in October, but this will be a stiffer test. While the last matchup was played at Cajun Field, Saturday’s showdown takes place at Brooks Stadium.

Those of you planning on betting the Sun Belt Championship game, be aware that this is a home game for Coastal Carolina. Also, know that CCU has been excellent against the spread as they continue to shock the nation. An 8-2-1 mark ATS this season includes a 4-1-1 mark at home.

On the flip side, Louisiana is an even 5-5 ATS in 2020. Also worth noting, the under has hit in 7 of the Rajin’ Cajuns 10 contests.

The X-Factor For the Rajin’ Cajuns

  • Jalen Williams, WR

As much as Levi Lewis wants to lean on his two-headed monster in the backfield, Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas can’t do it all against the Chants. Lewis needs his receivers to step up and make plays, namely the 6’4” senior, Jalen Williams.

The former pitcher in the Boston Red Sox farm system has been quiet for most of the season (19-245-3), although his best game (4-89-1) came in the first matchup versus CCU. A couple of big plays from Williams on the outside would go a long way toward having a chance to pull off the upset.

The X-Factor For the Chanticleers

  • Isaiah Likely, TE

Speaking of big and athletic outside receivers, Coastal Carolina has one of their own who we expect to have a productive outing on Saturday. However, all of the attention paid to Jaivon Heiligh should open the door for Isaiah Likely to come bursting through the seam.

One of the most underrated tight ends in America, the 6’4” 245-pound junior glides across the field and creates openings for Grayson McCall. Likely missed the October 14th game against LA-Lafayette (lower-body injury), but look for him to make his presence felt this time around.

Louisiana vs. Coastal Carolina Betting Pick

Now for the part where we have to make a Louisiana vs. Coastal Carolina prediction. Both of these programs have stingy defenses and both have balanced attacks on offense.

The biggest difference I see is the dependability under center.

Levi Lewis has a dynamic skill set, but the lefty has tossed seven interceptions and is completing just 60% of his throws.

RS Freshman Grayson McCall is connecting on north of 69% of his passes and has thrown just 2 picks. The CCU signal-caller has accounted for 29 TDs and is a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award and the Maxwell Award.

Betting against McCall on his home field just isn’t my cup of tea.

More College Football Conference Championship Picks

Do you agree with my Sun Belt Championship prediction? After outlasting BYU and fighting back against Troy, the Chants have one more obstacle standing in their way of landing in a New Year’s Six bowl game.

Perhaps a date against the winner of the Big 12 title game is next up for CCU.
