Los Angeles Clippers vs. Dallas Mavericks Pick – NBA, August 27, 2020
The Los Angeles Clippers displayed one of the most dominating playoff performances in years as they destroyed the Dallas Mavericks 154-111 in a Game 5 win. Doc Rivers’ side now leads the series 3-2 and is one step away from reaching Round 2 of the NBA playoffs. The Game 6 tip-off is set at 9 PM ET.
These conference rivals faced eight times this year, and the Clippers are leading the series 6-2, while they won four of six meetings here in the Orlando bubble. Have a look at my Clippers vs. Mavericks betting prediction for Game 6.
Clippers vs. Mavericks Betting Odds
After a fantastic showing by the Clippers in Game 5, the sportsbooks are offering a higher spread on Los Angeles, and now it’s -10.5. The total is the highest in the series so far, at 237.5, which is not surprising given the Clippers scored 154 in the previous encounter.
The Clippers played a perfect Game 5, and such domination wasn’t seen in the NBA playoffs for many years. It looks like Doc Rivers saw enough in the opening four games of the series, and obviously instructed his players what to do, which totally worked. Los Angeles took a 17-16 lead early in the first quarter and never looked back, and they even had a 45-point lead late in the game. The Clippers shot amazing 63.1% from the field and made 22 triples opposite Dallas’ 12, while they also dominated the boards (49-31) and assists (28-19).
Paul George responded to critics with a game-high 35 points to lead his team. Kawhi Leonard was right behind with 32 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, Montrezl Harrell posted a double-double of 19 points and game-high 11 boards, while Marcus Morris ended the tilt with 12 points, six rebounds, and four dishes.
Following a heroic Game 4 victory, the Dallas Mavericks disappeared from the court in Game 5, and not even Luka Doncic could help them. This time around, the Mavs couldn’t cope without Kristaps Porzingis, who is questionable to feature in Game 6 as well. Rick Carlisle’s team was inferior in every segment of a ball game.
Luka Doncic led his team with 22 points, team-high eight rebounds, and four assists. Tim Hardaway Jr. added 19 points, Trey Burke scored 15, while Maxi Cleber had 12 points and four boards.
Prediction and Pick
I think this is the end of the road for the brave Dallas Mavericks, who weren’t expected to get this far in the first place and win two games against the top favorite for the NBA championship. Luka Doncic is one of the most talented players in the league and surely a future MVO and Hall of Famer, but one thing is certain – he is not a superhero. The Mavs will likely play without Porzingis once again, and I don’t think they have a chance to extend this series to seven games. I am backing the Clippers to cover the spread and punch their Round 2 ticket on Thursday.
