Liverpool vs. Midtjylland Betting Preview – Champions League, October 27, 2020

Six-time Champions Leaguer winner Liverpool welcomes tournament debutant Midtjylland to Anfield on Tuesday, October 27, with the teams sitting at opposite ends of Group D.

A hard-earned victory over Ajax on Matchday 1 means Jurgen Klopp’s men are joint-top of the group, while a heavy defeat to Atalanta sees Midtjylland sitting rock bottom of the standings.

Believe me, you will not find a bigger odds gap in the Champions League this week. 10bet has named Liverpool (1.15) as the overwhelming favorite to win this one, with Midtjylland (17.75) the clear outsider.

As much as I’d love to make a case for the Danes getting something from this game, the size of the task is enormous. The sky-high price for the draw (9.00) may attract some attention, but that would certainly be a risky bet.

Following a shaky start to 2020/21, it finally feels like Liverpool is growing into the season. The Red were humiliated 7-2 by Aston Villa at the beginning of October, but a three-game unbeaten run appears to have steadied the ship.

Klopp’s men will feel they should have won the Merseyside derby, yet a number of questionable VAR decisions saw Everton snatch a 2-2 draw. However, the defending EPL champions bounced back with a testing victory over Ajax last week before edging Sheffield United on Saturday.

Liverpool isn’t blowing their opponents away at the moment, although the team is doing enough to get over the line. We are yet to see the Reds at their free-flowing best this term, but the visit of Midtjylland could present them with the perfect chance to gather some momentum.

In their debut Champions League appearance, Midtjylland managed to hold off Atalanta until the 26^th minute. But when Duvan Zapata broke the deadlock on Matchday 1, the floodgates opened.

The ruthless Italian side raced into a 3-0 lead before half-time before adding a fourth goal in the second half. The Wolves enjoyed plenty of possession and even created a few goalscoring opportunities, but they ultimately outclassed by last season’s UCL quarter-finalists.

It goes without saying that Midtjylland looks set for a tricky maiden Champions League campaign. Sure, Brian Priske’s men have only lost one of their six Superliga games this season. But the Danish top flight is nowhere near the level of the Champions League.

On Matchday 1, Midtjylland enjoyed moments of real promise against Atalanta. But a trip to Anfield poses a completely different test altogether.

The Champions League has dished up plenty of giant killings over the years, with upsets occurring almost every season. The odds for both the draw and the away win are hugely attractive here, but I simply can’t see Midtjylland getting anything from this game.

It is no secret that Liverpool has been off the pace in recent weeks. However, even without a number of key players, the Reds should see off the Danes with relative ease.
