Liverpool vs. Leeds United Betting Preview – EPL, September 12, 2020

Liverpool goes into a new season as Premier League champions for the very first time and comes up against newly-promoted Leeds United in its first game.

The Yorkshire club is participating in its first top-flight season for 16 years and there is a lot of expectation on the side to continue the fine form of last year.

Liverpool vs. Leeds United Odds

As much as Marcelo Bielsa has transformed Leeds into a free-flowing attacking team, these odds from BetOnline shows exactly how much of a gulf there is between the top of the Premier League and the top of the Championship. Liverpool is easily the odds on favorite and it would be a big shock if anything but that result comes about on Saturday.

Liverpool vs. Leeds United Match Preview

Liverpool romped to the title last season to win the English top-flight for the first time in 30 years. Although results took a little bit of a dive after the extended break, the lead at the top of the league was so great before the interruption in the season that crowning the champions was virtually a formality in the end.

There haven’t been many new arrivals in the Liverpool squad as of yet, but with Salah, Firmino and Mane all looking very good – and ably backed up by a strong defense and midfield – there is not much that Jurgen Klopp could realistically do to improve his starting eleven.

Leeds United will be attempting to find any possible weak spot – and Bielsa will have done his extensive homework in the hope of finding one. But it will be interesting to see whether he sets his team out in the same attacking manner that he did last year, or changes tactics to deal with the massive step up to the Premier League.

Leeds also hasn’t completed that much business in the offseason but there is a lot of faith put in Rodrigo, who has arrived from Valencia, as the club looks to get off to the best possible start. Facing the reigning champions on the first day is probably not ideal but it will give us a good idea of how Leeds will cope this season.

My Prediction and Betting Pick

  • Liverpool to Win

The odds are not that attractive if you are considering a single match result bet but even if Leeds plays to the very best of its abilities I can’t see this ending in anything but a Liverpool victory. The last time the club lost a home league game was way back in April 2017 – and I don’t see that changing this weekend.
