Liverpool vs. Brighton and Hove Albion Betting Preview – EPL, February 3, 2021
After an alarming dip in form at the start of 2021, Liverpool has now recorded back-to-back victories away from home to keep in touch with the two Manchester clubs at the top of the table.
Now the champions welcome Brighton to Anfield on Wednesday, who is looking to follow up a very good win against Spurs with a shock result on its travels.
Liverpool vs. Brighton and Hove Albion Odds
It may be down to Liverpool’s poor start to the year, but I am surprised that the bookies have not repeated here the kind of odds we saw for Manchester City’s game against Burnley this week. Liverpool is odds on to beat Brighton, but I would have expected much shorter odds for the home win and much longer for a Brighton victory.
Liverpool vs. Brighton and Hove Albion Match Analysis
For Premier League neutrals, the low points haul for Liverpool in January has set the title race up nicely between the champions, City and United – and possibly Leicester as well. But two 3-1 victories, away at Spurs and West Ham, have shown that anyone who had written off Jurgen Klopp’s side should probably think again.
Liverpool wasn’t even that impressive against West Ham, although it never looked as though it would lose further ground at the top of the table. Some of the soccer on show was exceptional, however. Mo Salah’s counter-attacking goal was a perfect example of that, and Brighton will be worried about committing players forward and conceding in the same way.
Seagulls manager Graham Potter will be hoping that he can exploit Liverpool’s defensive injury problems before any new players settle in. Ozan Kabak looks like he will join from Schalke but may take a while to get used to his new team. Brighton should be thinking about exploiting these kinds of weaknesses rather than shutting up shop.
The performance against Spurs at the weekend was probably the best for the season – and Brighton certainly took advantage of the injury to Harry Kane. Potter’s problem now is that he really needs his team to use that result as a platform for further success. But Liverpool away from home does not really fit in with that plan.
Liverpool vs. Brighton and Hove Albion Pick
Liverpool to Win-294
As well as Brighton played against Spurs at the weekend, it seems very unlikely that the Seagulls can go on to beat the champions away from home – especially now that Liverpool is back to winning ways itself. Klopp’s side does need to do a little more to become favorites to lift the EPL trophy again – but earning three points on Wednesday should not be too taxing.
