Liverpool vs. Arsenal Betting Preview – EPL, September 28, 2020

The EPL saves its best until last this week as Liverpool and Arsenal round off this set of fixtures at Anfield on Monday.
Both clubs have started brightly and hold 100% records after two games. The champions will be favorites but Mikel Arteta has his Arsenal side playing with a renewed confidence now.
Liverpool vs. Arsenal Odds
A lot has been said about how much sharper Arsenal has looked in the opening weeks of the new season but it should be remembered that the Gunners have not won at Anfield since 2012 – and Liverpool has easily beaten the Londoners in this fixture in the years since then. BetOnline is obviously not tempted to back the away side here either.
Match Preview
Although any neutral will have enjoyed Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Leeds on the opening day of the season, manager Jurgen Klopp will have despaired at the defensive mistakes that allowed the promoted club to compete. The routine win over Chelsea last weekend will have been far more pleasing for the German coach.
Sadio Mane scored the two goals in that win and took over from Mo Salah, who had done most of the hard work in the first game. Liverpool has also signed Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota since that first game, so will be able to present a fearsome attacking midfield.
Arsenal has looked very impressive as well so far this season, of course. Fulham was largely hopeless in the first game of the campaign, but the Gunners still passed the ball around well and deserved to get the goals that gave them the points. A surprisingly resilient West Ham was more difficult to beat, but exciting youngster Eddie Nketiah popped up four minutes from time to seal the victory.
But now Mikel Arteta will need to work out how to break down the Liverpool defense. Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds was able to do it a couple of weeks ago – and it will be interesting to see whether the Arsenal manager will take any inspiration from that game.
Prediction and Pick
-
Liverpool to Win-204
Even with the performances so far I don’t think that Arsenal is anywhere near competing with Liverpool and Manchester City for the title this season. But this game will tell us a lot about just how much the London team has improved.
There are some incredibly talented players at the club who didn’t look like they were enjoying themselves last season. That enjoyment has returned – but that will only go so far against the very best sides in the Premier League.
