Lille vs. AC Milan – Europa League, November 26, 2020

| November 24, 2020 10:41 am PDT

Yusuf Yazici netted a hat-trick as Lille hammered AC Milan 3-0 at Sin Siro at the beginning of November. The two sides meet for the reverse fixture on Thursday, November 26, with the Rossoneri aiming to seek revenge in France.

Both teams remain in control of their Europa League fate, although neither side will want to lose at Stade Pierre Mauroy. With Sparta Prague and Celtic hot on their heels, both managers will be desperate for their team to clinch all three points on Thursday.

Lille vs. AC Milan Odds

Lille to Win2.30
The Draw3.20
AC Milan to Win3.10

The top online betting sites have clearly taken Les Dogues’ recent win into account when pricing up this matchup. Lille (2.30) is the bookies’ favorite to win this one, but you’d be foolish to write of Milan (3.10).

Both sides have made a seriously strong start to the 2020/21 campaign, making this one of the most anticipated Europa League clashes of Matchday 4.

Lille vs. AC Milan Preview

Christophe Galtier’s men have played 14 games in all competitions this term, yet they have only suffered a single defeat along the way. Lille’s 12-match unbeaten streak was brought to an end by Brest just before the international break, although Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing of Lorient proves that LOSC is ready to do the double over Milan.

Yusuf Yazici scored a brace last time out, taking his tally to nine goals in 13 appearances this term. The Turkish forward already has two Europa League hat-tricks to his name in 2020/21, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he added to his impressive haul on Thursday.

Yazici’s efforts have enabled Lille to remain within touching distance of PSG in Ligue 1. But at the other end of the pitch, Les Dougues’ backline has also been immense. Goalkeeper Mike Maignan has kept six clean sheets in 11 league outings this term, helping his side to achieve the second-best defensive record in the division.

Funnily enough, Milan has also suffered just one defeat this season, although the Italians have played three games less than Lille. Six wins and two draws mean the Rossoneri is two points clear at the top of the Serie A table, with a hugely impressive goal difference of +11.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice as Milan beat Napoli 3-1 on Sunday, but manager Stefano Pioli may not be able to call upon his star striker this week. Zlatan reportedly picked up a hamstring injury last time out, making him a serious doubt for Thursday’s clash.

Having netted 11 goals in ten appearances this season, including four Serie A braces, Zlatan will be sorely missed if he isn’t fit enough to travel to France. Having said that, he failed to make an impact when Lille visited San Siro.

Still, Pioli has a number of impressive attacking options to call upon. Hakan Calhanoglu, Brahim Diaz, and Samu Castillejo make Milan a threat to any opponent.

Lille vs. AC Milan Pick

  • The Draw

It’s difficult to foresee the outcome of this clash. Both sides have been almost unstoppable during the early stages of the campaign, although Lille’s 3-0 victory over Milan is difficult to ignore.

Looking at the odds, I believe the draw offers the best value. Pioli’s men will have learned from the mistakes they made in the reverse fixture, so I can see the Italians snatching a point, even if Zlatan doesn’t make it.
