Pick for Lightning vs. Rangers Game 5 – Thursday, June 9th, 2022

| June 8, 2022 4:48 pm PDT

The Lightning vs. Rangers odds for Game 5 are live, so let’s break them down to see who we should be betting on. It’s been a great series so far in the Eastern Conference Finals, as we head to New York with a split series at 2 games apiece.

New York won the first two games of the series 6-2 and 3-2 at home. The Rangers answered with two straight home wins themselves, so it’s still anyone’s series.

Tampa Bay winning the last two games in a row gives them momentum, but so far the home teams have won every game this series.

Let’s check out the odds before we make our Lightning vs. Rangers pick for Game 5.

As you can see from the Lightning vs. Rangers odds that the Lightning are favored to win despite being on the road. Tampa Bay has won the Stanley Cup in each of the last two seasons and they look very capable of making it three straight.

The over/under for this game is being set around 5.5. 8 goals were scored in Game 1, but 5 goals have been scored in the last 3 games. It’s no surprise to see the over in plus money considering the last three games.

With that being said, the only game that has gone over was Game 1 in New York (6-2).

The main reason why the Lightning vs. Rangers odds are favoring the Lightning is because they have improved in every single game this series. New York was on fire coming into this series against the Rangers, scoring 5+ goals in Game 6 and 7 against Carolina and 6 goals in Game 1 against Tampa Bay.

Since then, the Lightning have been able to slow them down. The Rangers have scored one less goal in every game since the first and just one in their last.

Let’s breakdown the matchup a bit more before we officially make our Lightning vs. Rangers predictions for Game 5.

Lightning vs. Rangers Preview

Tampa Bay was looking on its way to winning a third straight Stanley Cup after a dominant sweep over the 1st place Florida Panthers in the second round. It doesn’t really matter how well you did in the regular season if you can’t finish the job.

Tampa Bay proved that to the Panthers, who had the league’s best record at 58-18-6 this season with the most points (122). The Lightning had an incredible display of defense, holding the league’s best team to less than 2 goals in every single game.

Their second round sweep gave them a full week’s worth of rest before they took on the Rangers. It actually worked out in the Rangers’ favor though, as they were so hot that they didn’t want to cool off.

Despite outshooting the Rangers in Games 1 and 2, the Lightning weren’t able to win. They did look much better in Game 2 though, losing by just 1 goal instead of 4 the first time around.

They’ve continued their improvement over the next two games and now have all the momentum going into Game 5.

Game 4 was the only game where the Rangers were able to outshoot the Lightning (35-31), but Andrei Vasilevskiy has improved drastically from Game 1. He’s saved 62 of 65 shots in the last two games and has successfully slowed down the previously hot Rangers’ offense.

Vasilevskiy and Igor Shesterkin are two of the very best goalies in the NHL, so it’s no surprise to see their teams just two games away from the Stanley Cup.

Since this is such an evenly matched series, you can have a strong argument for either team when making your Lightning vs. Rangers betting picks.

If you can’t decide on a Lightning vs. Rangers pick, check out our player props below for Game 5.

Lightning vs. Rangers Betting Picks for Player Props

Mika Zibanejad 3+ Shots on Goal-130
Artemi Panarin 3+ Shots on Goal+125
Chris Kreider 3+ Shots on Goal-108
Ondrej Palat 2+ Shots on Goal-176

The Lightning vs. Rangers betting odds are also offering player props that you can bet in addition to the usual game lines. Here are 4 picks that you should consider for Game 5.

Mika Zibanejad has been aggressive in this series against the Lightning. He scored a goal in each of the first three games of the series and tacked on two assists as well. The Rangers’ center has been the heart and soul for his team and he’s playing like it.

Zibanejad has 5+ shots on goal in 3 of the 4 games in this series. The only game he didn’t reach 5+ was in Game 2 when he got 2 shots. If you think Zibanejad can reach another 5+ shots on goal, the odds for that are (+231). You can also bet on him to score a goal with (+179).

Artemi Panarin is someone who would benefit greatly from Ryan Strome’s return to the lineup. Strome almost returned for Game 4, but was scratched late. That should mean an extra day of rest could be enough to get him back in the lineup.

Panarin reached 3 and 5 shots in the first two games, which was when Strome was able to play.

Kreider has also gotten 3 shots on goal in each of the last two games. He was able to reach 3 shots in Game 4 despite being in the penalty box for 4 minutes.

Ondrej Palat’s odds to just get 2 shots is intriguing. He’s gotten 2+ shots in every game this series and scored a goal in 3 of the 4 games. Palat should be looking to stay aggressive for the Lightning on the road.

Lighting vs. Rangers Pick for Game 5 of the 2022 ECF

My Pick – New York Rangers to Win (+110)Bet on the Rangers to Win on Bovada

My official Lightning vs. Rangers pick for Game 5 is going to be the Rangers’ moneyline. They lost the first two games on the road to the Hurricanes last series, but they bounced back and won 4 of the next 5 games.

They will be looking to bounce back here after two tough losses to the Lightning. I will say that important players like Ryan Strome and Filip Chytil are banged up, but have a chance to suit up in Game 5. That would be a huge boost for the Rangers, as they would be looking to take a 3-2 series lead.

The home team has won every game in this series so far. New York was also able to outshoot Tampa Bay in Game 4, but they weren’t able to convert those into goals. The score was 2-0 heading into the 3rd period, but the Rangers were outshooting the Lightning 22-15 at that time.

Steven Stamkos scored in the 3rd period and Ondrej Palat added an empty netter as well. Game 5 should be much closer and maybe even the Rangers can win this one.

Shesterkin is more than capable of holding the Lightning to a low-scoring game, while the Rangers should get a nice offensive boost with Strome back in the lineup (hopefully).

Feel free to trail my pick or make your own Lightning vs. Rangers predictions for Game 5, as it truly could go either way. If you’re looking for more recommended bets, check out our sports betting picks page for daily picks.
