Predictions for Liga MX Matchday 15 – October 22-24, 2021

| October 21, 2021 1:20 pm PDT

There may only be three Apertura Matchdays remaining in the 2021-22 Liga MX season, but there is still plenty to play for.

As it stands, every single team can secure a top-twelve finish, while 17 of the 18 sides remain in contention for a top-four berth. Sounds exciting, right!?

I will be sharing my Liga MX predictions for Matchday 15 in this piece, along with my top Liga MX picks for this weekend. After covering three standout games in detail, I will give the rest of my predictions before finishing with the best bets.

Let’s kick things off with my prediction for Club America vs. Tigres UANL.

Club America to Beat Tigres UANL

Although the Liga MX standings are extremely congested at the moment, the Eagles are soaring above every other team in the division.

Following a third straight win, Club America now sits eight points clear of second-place Atlas. To put America’s dominance into perspective, eight points also separate Atlas and fifteenth-place Juarez.

Don’t get me wrong, the Tigers are a top side, too. They have lost just one of their previous 12 Liga MX outings and find themselves third in the table. Still, they are nine points shy of America.

The main difference between the teams is in defense. While the Tigers have conceded 12 goals this term, the Eagles have only conceded eight.

For that reason, I’m backing America to claim all three points on Saturday.

Cruz Azul to Beat Guadalajara

Cruz Azul extended their unbeaten streak in Liga MX to five games in midweek, holding Atlas to a goalless draw.

Juan Reynoso’s men have picked up two wins and three draws from their past five outings. They have also achieved three shutouts in that time, meaning only two sides have a better defensive record in Liga MX.

On the flip side, Guadalajara ended their three-game winless run last time out – beating Toluca 2-0. Although they trail Cruz Azul by just a single point in the standings, they have scored five goals less than Reynoso’s team.

Bryan Angulo and Santiago Gimenez have both netted four goals for Cruz Azul this term, combining for eight. By contrast, Guadalajara has only managed ten goals as an entire team.

I’m confident that Cruz Azul will extend their unbeaten run to six games against low-scoring Guadalajara.

Pumas UNAM to Beat Club Tijuana

All of a sudden, things are looking up for Pumas.

Following a slow start to the season, the club from the capital city has found some form. Not only have the Cougars lost just one of their last six Liga MX matches, but they have also won each of their previous two.

After beating Juarez last weekend, Pumas showed great spirit to overcome Club Leon on Wednesday. They will now be confident of securing three straight victories.

Although Los Xolos are the only team below Pumas in the standings, they sit five points adrift at the bottom. To make matter worse for Tijuana, Pumas have a game in hand.

When you look at the bigger picture, Sebastian Mendez’s boys have managed to win just one of their 14 games this term. With that in mind, I can see Pumas dispatching Tijuana with ease.

Other Liga MX Predictions for Matchday 15

Here are the rest of my predictions for Liga MX Matchday 15.

  • Queretaro to Beat Mazatlan
  • Puebla and Club Leon to Draw
  • Monterrey to Beat Necaxa
  • Atlas to Beat Atletico San Luis
  • Santos Laguna and Toluca to Draw
  • Pachuca to Beat Juarez

I expect Queretaro to extend their unbeaten streak to six games when off-form Mazatlan comes to town. After all, Benat San Jose’s men have lost two of their last three matches.

With just a single point separating Puebla and Club Leon in the table, I can see Saturday’s encounter between the teams ending in a draw.

Monterrey should return to winning ways against lowly Necaxa this weekend, while second-place Atlas will likely get the better of tenth-place Atletico San Luis. I’m also backing Pachuca to beat Juarez.

The last of my Liga MX predictions for Matchday 15 concerns Santos Laguna and Toluca. Given that both sides are struggling for form at the moment, I expect their meeting to end all square.

Best Liga MX Betting Picks for Matchday 15

Finally, here are my top Liga MX bets for Matchday 15.

  • Pumas UNAM to Beat Club Tijuana (2.10)
  • Santos Laguna vs. Toluca – Over 2.5 Goals (2.10)
  • Club America to Beat Tigres UANL (1.91)
  • Monterrey vs. Necaxa – Both Teams to Score (2.20)

Given that Pumas head into Matchday 15 on the back of two straight wins, backing them to beat a Tijuana team that has picked up just one win all season makes perfect sense.

I also think backing America to beat Tigres is a great bet. Although the Tigers are enjoying a positive run at the moment, the Eagles should cruise to a fourth straight victory this weekend.

Elsewhere, Toluca is the only side in Liga MX averaging over 2.5 goals per game this term. The Red Devils have scored 20 goals, but they have also conceded 19.

Not only are they the second-highest scorers in the league, but they also have the third-worst defensive record. That’s why I’m backing them to dish up at least three goals with Santos Laguna.

With Monterrey averaging 2.3 goals per game and Necaxa averaging 2.2 goals per game, backing both teams to score in that fixture feels like a good idea.
