Liga MX Matchday 12 Predictions and Best Bets – October 1-3, 2021

Following a six-game schedule in midweek, we have a full round of Liga MX games to bet on this weekend. In fact, all 18 teams return to action on Matchday 12.
Puebla and Pachuca get Matchday 12 underway on Friday, October 1, before Juarez and Monterrey clash later that day.
With three games on Saturday and a further four on Sunday, there is no shortage of Liga MX betting opportunities this weekend.
Before I share my predictions for Liga MX Matchday 12, let’s take a quick look at the schedule.
- Puebla vs. Pachuca
- Juarez vs. Monterrey
- Leon vs. Atletico San Luis
- Santos Laguna vs. Mazatlan
- Guadalajara vs. Atlas
- Toluca vs. Queretaro
- Club America vs. Pumas UNAM
- Tigres UANL vs. Necaxa
- Club Tijuana vs. Cruz Azul
Right, it’s time for my Liga MX predictions and best bets for Matchday 12 of the 2021 Apertura season.
Puebla and Pachuca to Draw
As the two sides prepare to face off on Friday night, thirteenth-place Puebla and fourteenth-place Pachuca are separated by just a single point in the standings.
Both teams are in good form, too. While Puebla heads into Matchday 12 on a five-game unbeaten streak (2 wins, 3 draws), Los Tuzos have taken four points from their previous two outings – holding first-place Club America to a draw in midweek.
With very little between Puebla and Pachuca at the moment, I can see this one ending in a draw.
Monterrey to Beat Juarez
Monterrey secured their third consecutive Liga MX victory – and their fourth straight win in all competitions – by beating Santos Laguna 2-1 last time out.
Since the Apertura kicked off, the White & Blues have only lost one of their 13 matches across all competitions. As a result, they find themselves second in the Mexican top-flight standings – two points behind America.
You shouldn’t be shocked to learn that I’m backing Monterrey to claim all three points on Friday.
Atletico San Luis to Beat Leon
Club Leon is not in a good place right now. The Guardianes 2020 champions have won just two of their past seven outings in all competitions and head into Matchday 12 on the back of two straight Liga MX defeats.
Meanwhile, Los Atleticos have only lost two of their last seven games. Having picked up a couple of wins in their previous four Liga MX outings, they sit one place and one point ahead of Leon.
Based on my prediction on these two sides’ contrasting recent form, I’m backing Atletico San Luis to get the better of Leon this weekend.
Santos Laguna to Beat Mazatlan
Although Mazatlan comes into Matchday 12 on a three-match unbeaten streak (1 win, 2 draws), I can see them struggling against Santos Laguna.
Benat San Jose’s men have conceded 17 goals in 11 league games this season, meaning they have the joint-worst defensive record in the league.
Santos, by contrast, has only let in nine goals this term. Only first-place Club America and fourth-place Atlas boast a better defensive record than Guillermo Almada’s side.
With Santos trailing Mazatlan by just two points, I can see Almada’s men leapfrogging the Sinaloa outfit on Saturday.
Atlas to Beat Guadalajara
Atlas’ six-game unbeaten run (3 wins, 3 draws) was finally brought to an end by Puebla in midweek. Still, I expect the Red & Blacks to return to winning ways this weekend.
The Goats, on the other hand, have only managed to pick up two wins from their previous nine outings. To make matters worse, they were beaten by third-bottom Queretaro on Thursday.
This should be a relatively straightforward win for Atlas.
Toluca and Queretaro to Draw
As I just mentioned Queretaro beat Guadalajara in midweek. Jonathan Dos Santos netted the game’s only goal, handing his team their second win in three matches.
Although Toluca is 11 points ahead of Queretaro in the standings, Los Gallos Blanco will be brimming with belief after clinching two vital victories. Can they use that belief to overcome Toluca on Sunday?
Well, it will be difficult for them to beat Toluca. But I can see them snatching a draw. After all, the Red Devils have lost each of their last two games while conceding over 1.5 goals on both occasions.
Queretaro is on the up, while Toluca is on the slide. For that reason, I’m backing the visitors to hold the hosts to a draw.
Club America to Beat Pumas UNAM
Club America kicked off the campaign with a ten-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, sealing eight wins and two draws in the process. Since then, however, they have taken just two points from a possible nine.
After suffering their first loss of the season to Toluca, the Eagles have registered back-to-back draws with Guadalajara and Pachuca. Even so, they shouldn’t struggle to beat Pumas on Sunday.
The gulf between America and Pumas currently stands at 14 points; I expect the gap to be 17 points by the end of Matchday 12.
Tigres UANL to Beat Necaxa
The Tigers head into Sunday’s meeting with Necaxa on the back of a dominant 3-0 victory over Atletico San Luis. Luis Quinones, Juan Pablo Vigon, and Carlos Gonzalez grabbed the goals.
Miguel Herrera’s boys have now lost just one of their last nine Liga MX encounters (3 wins, 5 draws). As a result, only five teams sit above them in the ten-game form table.
Necaxa sits eleventh in that particular table, having lost six of their previous ten matches. Los Rayos trail the Tigers by five points, so I can’t see them avoiding defeat this weekend.
Cruz Azul to Beat Club Tijuana
Following their sixth loss of the campaign, Tijuana is rock bottom of the standings. Last time out, Los Xolos were crushed 3-0 by Necaxa, with Lucas Rodriguez receiving a red card.
Having suffered a 2-0 defeat to MLS side Columbus Crew in the Campeones Cup on Thursday, Cruz Azul will be eager to return to winning ways this weekend. Personally, I don’t think that will be too difficult.
The Sky Blues have only lost one of their last nine Liga MX clashes, so they shouldn’t struggle to overcome faltering Tijuana.
Best Liga MX Bets for Matchday 12
Here are my top Liga MX picks for Matchday 12. If you’re betting on Liga MX this weekend, make sure you head over to the best online soccer sportsbooks to place your wagers.
Leon vs. Atletico San Luis
At 1.65, Club Leon is the bookmakers’ clear favorite to win this clash. However, I predicted that Atletico San Luis will claim all three points on Saturday – and I’m standing by my prediction.
While Leon has only managed to win two of their past seven outings, Los Atleticos have lost just two of their previous seven. Needless to say, the away side is the in-form team in this matchup.
Purely for the potential profit, I recommend backing San Luis at the juicy price of 4.75.
- Pick: Atletico San Luis to Win – 4.75
Toluca vs. Queretaro
As you know, I went with the draw for my Toluca vs. Queretaro prediction. Although I can see this clash being a tight encounter, the draw is invariably a risky wager.
With that in mind, I believe both teams to score is the best bet for this game, as Toluca is the only side averaging 3+ goals per game this term.
Not only are the Red Devils the top scorers in Liga MX, but they also have the third-worst defensive record. We should see plenty of goals here.
- Pick: Both Teams to Score – 1.95
Tigres UANL vs. Necaxa
Tigres should win this game without any problems. That said, the price for the home victory (1.67) is nothing to write home about.
Instead, I suggest backing the Tigers with a –1 handicap. Only one team has scored more goals than Tigres this season, while Necaxa has the second-worst defensive record in the division.
Need I say more?
