Liga MX Matchday 10 Predictions and Best Bets – September 25-27 (2021)

Matchday 10 of the Liga MX 2021 Apertura sees 16 of the league’s 18 teams compete this weekend. Juarez and Queretaro are the only two sides sitting out, meaning all the big guns are in action!
Pachuca and Club Necaxa kick things off before fourth-place Atlas, and fifth-place Leon go head-to-head on Saturday, September 25. Frontrunner Club America hosts Guadalajara, while Santos Laguna and Monterrey wrap up the weekend’s action on Sunday.
Before we get stuck into my Liga MX predictions for Matchday 10, let’s take a look at the fixture list.
- Pachuca vs. Club Necaxa
- Club Puebla vs. Cruz Azul
- Club Tijuana vs. Mazatlan
- Atlas vs. Club Leon
- Tigres UANL vs. Pumas UNAM
- Club America vs. Guadalajara
- Deportivo Toluca vs. Atletico San Luis
- Santos Laguna vs. Monterrey
Not only do I share my predictions for Liga MX Matchday 10, but I also provide some top Liga MX betting picks at the end of this post. If you like the sound of that, I suggest you keep reading!
Pachuca and Club Necaxa to Draw
It’s safe to say that both Pachuca and Club Necaxa are not in a good place right now.
Having won just two of their opening eight matches this season, Pachuca sits fourth from the bottom in the standings. Meanwhile, Nexaxa is only two points and two places ahead of Pachuca and comes into Matchday 10 on the back of three straight losses.
The two sides have played 17 Apertura games between them this season, picking up a combined total of five wins in the process. Considering that statistic, both teams will be eager to avoid defeat at Estadio Hidalgo.
I expect Pachuca and Necaxa to produce a cagey encounter, so I can see this one ending in a draw.
Cruz Azul to Beat Club Puebla
Following a run of three draws and two losses, Cruz Azul finally returned to winning ways last weekend. The 2021 Guardianes champions beat Queretaro 2-0, with Brayan Angulo and Lucas Passerini grabbing the goals.
Although Juan Reynono’s men have only won three games this season, they have lost just twice. As a result, they find themselves five points clear of Club Puebla.
Los Camoteros have only managed to win one of their nine Liga MX outings this year, scoring a measly seven goals along the way.
I’m backing the 2021 Guardianes champs to flex their muscles and claim all three points at Estadio Cuauhtemoc.
Club Tijuana to Beat Mazatlan
It is no secret that Club Tijuana has made a poor start to the 2021 Apertura campaign. I mean, Robert Siboldi’s men have won just once in nine matches and sit rock bottom of the standings.
Still, the visit of fellow struggler Mazatlan provides Tijuana with the ideal opportunity to get back on track and return to winning ways.
Mazatlan heads into Matchday 10 on a dreadful seven-game winless streak, having registered four draws and three losses since beating Pachuca back in July. They also have the second-worst defensive record in the division, with 16 goals in the against column.
With the home crowd behind them, I’m confident that Los Xolos will pick up their second win of the season on Friday.
Atlas to Beat Club Leon
Fourth-place Atlas and fifth-place Club Leon are separated by just a single point as they prepare to go head-to-head at the Jalisco Stadium on Saturday. It is worth noting, however, that the two sides have enjoyed contrasting fortunes of late.
While Atlas is unbeaten in five Liga MX games, Los Verdiblancos have failed to win any of their previous four league matches – recording three draws and a loss in the process.
Fresh from beating MLS club Seattle 3-2 in the Leagues Cup final, Leon will be confident of returning to winning ways on home soil. But how fresh will they actually be?
Ariel Holan’s men gave their all to beat the Sounders on Wednesday, with Angel Mena bagging a brace before Emmanuel Gigliotti’s 85th-minute winner. Consequently, they won’t have much left in the tank.
For that reason, I’m backing Atlas to extend their unbeaten streak this weekend by seeing off a tired Leon outfit.
Tigres UANL to Beat Pumas UNAM
Eighth-place Tigres UANL sits six points clear of sixteenth-place Pumas UNAM in the standings. Although neither team has managed to win any of their last three outings, there is no denying that Miguel Herrera’s side is in a stronger position.
The Pumas, on the other hand, are the second-lowest scorers in the league. They have managed to score just six goals in nine games this term, while Queretaro is the only team with less.
When you look at the contrasting goalscoring records of Tigres and Pumas, all the signs point towards a comfortable home win for the hosts.
Club America to Beat Guadalajara
Club America FINALLY lost a soccer match last weekend! Following a remarkable 14-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, the Eagles were beaten 3-1 by Toluca.
That said, they still find themselves atop the Liga MX table – boasting the best goal difference in Mexico’s top tier. Having won 14 of their previous 18 outings, they shouldn’t struggle to bounce back this weekend.
A four-match unbeaten run has seen Guadalajara climb to ninth in the standings, seven points shy of America. When you look at the bigger picture, though, Las Chivas have only picked up three wins in their past 11 competitive games.
I expect Santiago Solari’s men to flex their muscles and dispatch Guadalajara on Saturday.
Deportivo Toluca and Atletico San Luis to Draw
As I just mentioned, Toluca was that team that ended America’s lengthy unbeaten streak. Haret Ortego netted a double in the landmark win while Braian Samudio completed scoring.
However, the Red Devils were quickly brought back down to earth in midweek. They ended up losing 2-0 to Monterrey on Wednesday and failed to build on their impressive victory over America.
Atletico San Luis also lost on Wednesday, going down 1-0 to Juarez.
Los Atleticos are more than capable of avoiding defeat against Toluca, so I can see this clash ending on level terms.
Monterrey to Beat Santos Laguna
Monterrey kicked off the campaign with a seven-game unbeaten streak before losing to Atlas earlier this month. They have since bounced back in style, though, winning each of their previous three matches in all competitions.
After dispatching Cruz Azul 4-1 in the CONCACAF Champions League, the 2019 Apertura champions beat both Tigres and Toluca 2-0. Not only are they scoring plenty of goals at the moment, but they are also keeping clean sheets.
Santos Laguna sits tenth in the table – five points behind third-place Monterrey. Guillermo Almada’s men have drawn a whopping six of their nine Liga MX outings this term, recording two wins and one loss.
Given Santos’ inability to turn draws into wins, I’m confident that in-form Monterrey will come away with all three points on Sunday.
Best Liga MX Bets for Matchday 10 (2021)
Not that you’ve seen my Matchday 10 Liga MX predictions, it’s time to check out my top Liga MX picks for Matchday 10. If you’re betting on Liga MX this weekend, make sure you place your wagers with only the best soccer betting sites.
Club Puebla vs. Cruz Azul
Club Puebla has only managed to win one of their nine league games this season, scoring just seven goals in the process. Cruz Azul, meanwhile, has only suffered two losses this term and has netted 12 goals.
With Puebla playing on home soil this weekend, the bookies offer a tasty price for the Cruz Azul win. Considering the gulf in quality between the teams, backing the visitors makes perfect sense here.
- Pick: Cruz Azul to Win – 2.45
Tigres UANL vs. Pumas UNAM
Tigres (1.50) is the obvious favorite to win this one, leaving Pumas (6.00) as the clear underdog. That said, the odds for the home victory aren’t exactly very attractive.
In order to get better value, I recommend backing Tigres with a –1 handicap. The Tigers are the third-highest scorers in the league, while the Pumas have one of the poorest defensive records.
- Pick: Tigres UANL (-1) – 2.50
Deportivo Toluca vs. Atletico San Luis
Earlier in this piece, I predicted that Toluca (1.91) and Atletico San Luis (3.60) will produce a draw on Sunday. Although the price for the draw (3.40) is tempting, the draw bet is invariably a risky option.
Instead, I’m backing the over 2.5 goals market for this clash. Seven of Toluca’s ten Liga MX matches have produced at least three goals this season, while 55% of San Luis’ games have produced over 2.5 goals.
- Pick: Over 2.5 Goals – 2.00
