Leicester City vs. Newcastle United – English Premier League, May 7, 2021
Leicester faces Newcastle in what could be seen as the easier game before the end of the season. The Foxes come up against Manchester United, Chelsea, and Spurs after this.
Newcastle’s players will feel that the gap between themselves and the bottom three is enough to retain their Premier League status – but there may be some twists and turns.
Leicester City vs. Newcastle United Odds
There are usually some strange results at this stage of the season, as weaker sides overcome clubs much higher up the table. BetOnline is obviously not swayed by that tradition and has made Leicester odds on to win on Friday.
I am inclined to agree with the bookmaker, as the home side really needs the three points from this one to make the run-in easier for itself.
Leicester City vs. Newcastle United Preview
Leicester missed a great chance to consolidate a Champions League place last weekend, as it could only draw against ten-man Southampton on Friday. With such tough fixtures still to come, that game and this one should have been the dead certs for Brendan Rodgers’s side.
There are a few regular injury worries for Rodgers ahead of this game – but the good news is that Kelechi Iheanacho is available to keep up his incredible goal-scoring form.
The Nigeria international may well have a few chances to add to his tally if Newcastle plays as it did against Arsenal at the weekend. Steve Bruce’s men sat back in an attempt to frustrate the Gunners. Instead, they allowed them to enjoy the bulk of the play and get in a confidence-boosting performance ahead of their Europa League semifinal on Thursday.
The Magpies did very little throughout the game and were probably lucky to only end up conceding two unanswered goals. But with a nine-point buffer ahead of the relegation zone – and just four games of the season to go, Newcastle will feel as though the hard work was done in the previous two months when it lost just once in the league.
My Leicester City vs. Newcastle United Pick
Leicester City to Win-217
This is a classic end-of-season game where one team is desperate for the points, as the other is coasting along as the end of the campaign comes into sight.
If Fulham starts winning a few games, there might be some anxious moments for Newcastle over the next few weeks. Still, defeat here to Leicester should not dent the club’s hopes of staying up too much.
