Leicester City vs. Liverpool – EPL, February 13, 2021

A lot of people have already decided that it will be Manchester City that will be lifting the EPL trophy at the end of the season. But this game is a chance for both sides to at least give themselves an outside chance.

But recent poor results for both Leicester and Liverpool suggest that defeat here would probably be the end of the road.

Liverpool has just lost three consecutive games at home for the first time since 1963, but BetOnline still obviously rates the Anfield club. I’m not sure I would have Jurgen Klopp’s side favorite to win this one – and the odds for both the draw and the home win look far better value to me.

Leicester played out a largely uneventful goalless draw with Wolves last weekend and remained in third, seven points behind the leaders, having played one more game. There doesn’t seem too much chance of the Foxes repeating their famous title win of 2016, but there is a lot of hope at the King Power.

Jamie Vardy is now back from hernia surgery – and played half an hour of the game against Wolves. He should get a longer run out on Saturday, and Leicester always seems more dangerous when he is playing. But the defense is also very strong this season, so Liverpool might have a job getting through.

Jurgen Klopp has the talent to break open any defense, of course, but it has been alarmingly quiet of late. The ever-growing list of defensive absentees has been a major problem, but Liverpool has only won two of its last nine league games – and has lost the last two.

The players looked toothless against a rampant Manchester City on Sunday, after losing at home to Brighton in the week. Mo Salah and Sadio Mane need to get back to their very best if Liverpool is to get anything from this fixture – but the entire squad seems tired, and that could be bad news on Saturday.

Leicester may have dropped a few points in recent games, but it is still one of the only teams in the EPL that can seriously trouble the ‘big boys.’ Liverpool’s injuries and fatigue seem to have caught up with it, so I’m going for the home win here. The odds offered look like particularly good value too.
