Leeds United vs. Liverpool – English Premier League, April 19, 2021
Liverpool still has a chance of finishing in the top four this season, even though it currently sits just outside the European places. There would have not been many fans that watched Klopp’s side last year that would have thought this would be the situation at this point.
But Leeds showed in the very first game of the season that Liverpool might not have everything its own way this time – and might feel as though it has every chance of taking all three points on Monday.
Leeds United vs. Liverpool Odds
Liverpool has found some of its old form in recent weeks but I would say that the bookmakers have too much confidence in the champions in the way they have priced this one.
Although the odds for the home win look attractive, the draw bet might be the one to go for here. It seems to offer the best value of the three options.
Assessing the Teams
Leeds United has played one way all season. From that opening fixture in which it shared seven goals with Liverpool at Anfield, right through to the position we find ourselves now with seven games remaining.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side also has the good fortune of going into this game on the back of three consecutive victories – the last one coming away from home against Manchester City. Leeds has shown all the way through this campaign that it can give anyone a game – and isn’t afraid of grand reputations.
Bielsa only has the condition of Raphinha as a slight injury worry for this game, whereas Jurgen Klopp has his usual group of absentees. There are no new names for the list though, so Liverpool will be hoping that it can continue its own winning streak that has also extended to three games.
But this run did come after just one win in seven EPL fixtures, so Liverpool is now fighting to qualify for Europe. Real Madrid knocked the club out of this year’s competition and there is a real danger of not climbing back into the top four to make next season’s at all. A tough game against Leeds is probably not the straightforward type of fixture that Klopp would have preferred at this point.
Leeds United vs. Liverpool Prediction and Pick
I would probably have gone for the Leeds win here if it wasn’t for the recent return of Diogo Jota to the Liverpool squad. The front three of Firmino, Salah and Mane just haven’t performed in the same way as it did last year and Jota has been a savior on more than one occasion.
Leeds will enjoy a lot of the game here though, so a draw might be more likely than either side winning.
