Leeds United vs. Crystal Palace – EPL, February 8, 2021
With all the praise that Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds have attracted this season, it might be surprising for some to learn that Palace sits just two places below in the EPL going into this fixture.
The south London club is actually level on points with its host on Monday – and confidence should be high after back-to-back victories for the first time since the first two games of the season.
Leeds United vs. Crystal Palace Odds
Palace is actually the team with the better form coming into this game, but Leeds has still been looking very impressive, even in defeat, so I am not surprised that BetOnline has the home side to win this one. Roy Hodgson might even be quite happy with a draw, so I would want much longer odds for an away victory.
Leeds United vs. Crystal Palace Match Preview
Leeds was unable to make it three out of three on Wednesday as it lost 2-1 at home to Everton. But the defeat was not for want of trying – and on another night, with a different opposition keeper, the end result might well have been different. Robin Olsen was excellent between the sticks for the Toffees and definitely won the points for the visitors.
Marcelo Bielsa didn’t seem at all disappointed with the effort put in by his players in that loss, but he must be getting a little frustrated at the way all that team spirit still only sees his side in the bottom half of the table. There are some very good players in the Leeds squad, and they really deserve more of an end product.
They may be able to find that on Monday, though, as Crystal Palace travels up to Elland Road without star player Wilfried Zaha, who misses this with a hamstring injury. Jeffrey Schlupp is also absent as Roy Hodgson looks to shuffle his players around to put out a competitive eleven.
With goal scoring continuing to be a regular problem at Palace, Hodgson may give Jean-Philippe Mateta his first taste of the English Premier League. The French striker joined from Mainz in the January transfer window and was scoring regularly for his struggling team in the Bundesliga. The situation at Palace will surely seem familiar to him.
Leeds United vs. Crystal Palace Prediction and Pick
Leeds United to Win-118
Even if Leeds has not done quite as well as many predicted this season so far, Bielsa’s team is never boring to watch, and this fixture could give it a good opportunity to really stretch an opponent. If the chances that the players created against Everton come up again, this could actually be a very comprehensive home victory.
