Leeds United vs. Chelsea – English Premier League, March 13

| March 10, 2021 11:42 am PDT

Leeds versus Chelsea used to be one of the biggest games in England back in the 1970s – and this fixture would have been one to look out for Leeds fans as they watch their side back in the top flight again.

The fans won’t be at Elland Road on Saturday, of course, but the home side will still want to put one over its old rival. Chelsea is looking good under Thomas Tuchel though, so this should be an intriguing encounter.

The Draw+260
Chelsea to Win-128

Leeds can be inconsistent in its results, so I do understand why BetOnline has priced the home team so generously here. But, even with the improvement at Chelsea, I think this game will be closer than these odds suggest. I think the draw bet is the one with the most value here.

Leeds United vs. Chelsea Match Preview

It is probably fair to say that Leeds dominated its game against West Ham at the weekend. But the fact that the Yorkshire club ended up losing shows that there is still fragility to the side. That was especially noticeable when West Ham pressed the game upon Leeds. So a game against a Chelsea side that enjoys possession could spell trouble for Marcelo Bielsa.

It is unlikely that Bielsa will change the way his team plays however. Leeds will still look to the energetic, attacking style it has shown all season.

If Patrick Bamford and others are a little more clinical in their finishing then that tactic might work yet again. But Chelsea is unlikely to give Leeds so many chances to score.

Tuchel is also imposing his idea of how soccer should be played on his squad – and to great effect. The win over Everton on Sunday showed a gulf in class that the league positions of the clubs before the game didn’t. Tuchel would have been particularly pleased that he was able to coax a performance out of Kai Havertz.

It was probably the young German’s best game in a Chelsea shirt – and if he can find the form that he was showing in the Bundesliga before his move, Chelsea is in for a treat. Timo Werner is also settling into the EPL now, so the Leeds defense will be in for a tough time on Saturday.

Leeds United vs. Chelsea Betting Pick

  • The Draw

Going on results, Chelsea is definitely the form team of the two here. The Stamford Bridge club has not lost in its last nine EPL games (ever since Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard), while Leeds has only won one of its last five. But we have already seen that Leeds can play this season – and if Patrick Bamford is able to put away an early chance, he might be able to inspire the team to a positive result.
