Leeds United vs. Arsenal – EPL, November 22, 2020
Both these teams suffered heavy defeats last time out, so were probably quite happy that the international break arrived to spare any further punishments. But it does also mean that they will want to return on a positive note.
Leeds will be keen to earn three points to pull away from the bottom group of clubs, while Arsenal would like to climb into contention for the European places.
Leeds United vs. Arsenal Odds
The bookmakers may have looked at Leeds last two results in the EPL – both 4-1 defeats – to inform these prices, but I am always wary of backing Arsenal away from home. There have been two wins on the road already this season but the Gunners can sometimes shrink when they leave the comfort of north London.
Leeds badly missed Pablo Hernandez in the middle of the field in its 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Crystal Palace last time out. He was probably omitted because of his reaction to being substituted in the loss to Leicester the week before – a game that also ended 4-1. But the talismanic midfielder should be re-instated for the visit of Arsenal.
That would add some creativity in the middle, with the continued absence of Kalvin Phillips. But it should also make it more difficult for Arsenal to break through in the same way as Leicester and Crystal Palace were able to. It does look as though there will be more pressure on Patrick Bamford to score the goals up front though.
Arsenal looked equally weak in its game against Aston Villa before the break. I have questioned the team’s spirit away from home above, this was a meek performance at the Emirates where nothing seemed to go right and the Gunners looked devoid of ideas.
It seemed to be a game perfect for Mesut Ozil. But Mikel Arteta looks content to continue to freeze out the former Germany international. It is a shame, as some creativity is desperately needed against Villa – and will be once again if Thomas Partey’s injury means he misses out on the trip to Yorkshire.
Leeds United vs. Arsenal Betting Pick
Leeds United to Win+190
A lot will depend on whether Partey is included in the Arsenal squad for this game. But I think Leeds will still be able to work around the Ghana international and score the goals it needs to win all three points if he is selected.
I’m still not completely convinced with the Arsenal defense and feel that Bamford will have a few chances to win this one for his team.
