Lazio vs. Juventus – Serie A, November 8, 2020

After going three league matches without a win, Lazio improved and connected five games without losing in all competitions. They beat Torino and Bologna in Serie A, and that victory over Torino on the road was a thriller as Lazio came from behind in injury time to snatch three points. The Eagles are in 10th place with ten points from six games, two behind Juventus.

The defending champions Juventus are one of three clubs (AC Milan and Sassuolo) without a loss in Serie A so far, but they drew three of six matches and are in 3r place with 12 points, quite an unfamiliar place to be for the Old Lady. Still, there is a lot of football to be played this season, and Andrea Pirlo will surely get all the pieces of the puzzle in the coming weeks and months.

Lazio Team News and Stats

Lazio defeated Torino 4-3 in the previous Serie A round, giving them their 1,000th Serie A victory, precisely 91 years and 26 days after their maiden win over Bologna back in 1929. With that historic result, Lazio’s last five competitive games have now seen both teams score (W3, D2), with Lazio scoring the opening goal on four occasions.

Both sides have also found the back of the net in all four of Lazio‘s home matches in this campaign (W2, D1, L1), with the hosts winning the previous two. They scored the opening two match goals inside one half in both victories, before allowing the third match goal. Still, the hosts scored the first goal only once in the last seven H2H duels held at Stadio Olimpico (W1, L6).

Simone Inzaghi cannot count on Djavan Anderson (illness), Gonzalo Escalante (illness), Manuel Lazzari (illness), Silvio Proto (arm), Stefan Radu (muscle), and Denis Vavro, while Senad Lulic is questionable with an ankle injury.

Juventus Team News and Stats

A 4-1 midweek victory in the Champions League action against Ferencvaros was the first UCL game to see Juventus score 4+ goals since September 2016, and their second in a row to end exactly 4-1 after they defeated Spezia away in the last round of Serie A. However, that was Juventus’ just first away league win this term (W1, D2).

The visitors’ have allowed in the opening 45 minutes in all three Serie A road trips this season, with two of those goals being the opening in matches. That being said, The Old Lady was trailing at halftime in only one of those contests (HT: D2, L1), while each of the last five H2H clashes at Stadio Olimpico was tied at the break, with four being without goals.

Andrea Pirlo will be without Alex Sandro (thigh), Matthijs de Ligt (shoulder), and Aaron Ramsey.

Lazio vs. Juventus Pick

Juventus won six of the previous ten H2H encounters, including four of the last six (L2), while the Old Lady was victorious in six of the past seven meetings at Stadio Olimpico (L1). Although Juve has an excellent record at this venue, playing on the road in Serie A this season is a problem for Pirlo’s side, so I would avoid betting on them to win. Six of the previous eight H2H duels produced goals on both sides, including the last two at this stadium, so I am going with BTTS here.
