Lazio vs. Inter Betting Preview – Serie A, October 4, 2020

Matchday 3 of the 2020-21 Italian Serie A brings some super exciting games to the bettors, including the marquee matchup between Lazio and Inter on Sunday, October 4.

Both these teams should mount a serious championship challenge, so meeting each other early in the season would be a proper test for either side.

Lazio is rarely an underdog at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, but this time, the Eagles welcome the in-form Black and Blues who won their first two games of the season while scoring a whopping nine goals in the process.

The Eagles opened with a convincing 2-0 road victory over Cagliari, but they stumbled last week, suffering a tough 4-1 home loss to Atalanta. It was a lousy performance by Simone Inzaghi’s team, as they allowed three first-time goals.

Felipe Caicedo scored the only goal for the Eagles in the second half, and Atalanta needed just four minutes to make it 4-1, so Inzaghi must be furious about his team’s defensive effort.

That could be a huge problem against the red-hot Inter. Antonio Conte’s team beat Fiorentina 4-3 at home in the opener, overcoming a 3-2 deficit in the last three minutes of the game.

Last week, the Black and Blues netted five times at Benevento. Still, they allowed a couple of goals to the Sorcerers, so it’s safe to say that Inter has some serious defensive issues, too.

Powerhouse striker Romelu Lukaku leads the way for Inter with three goals over the previous two weeks, while another striker, Lautaro Martinez, added a couple of goals.

Antonio Conte cannot count on midfielder Matias Vecino (knee), but all other players are ready to go. On the other side, the Eagles are without center-back Luiz Felipe (ankle), midfielder Senad Lulic (ankle), and forward Joaquin Correa (back). 

Lazio and Inter split their previous four Serie A encounters. Last season, Lazio beat Inter 2-1 at home but lost 1-0 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

While both teams have been struggling defensively through the first two weeks, they’ve also shown some excellent attacking potential. Still, the bookies expect to see a high-scoring game, so the odds on the over 2.5 goals and BTTS YES are not tempting at all.

Both Lazio and Inter should find the net at least once, and if you are satisfied with -200 odds on both teams to score, go for it.

The Eagles miss Luiz Felipe a lot, but they still have some good players at the back to put on a solid performance. The hosts will be keen to bounce back from a painful home loss to Atalanta, so I think they will stay undefeated on Saturday.

Lazio has lost three of its last five home matchups with Inter along with a couple of wins. Interestingly, we haven’t seen a draw between these two foes in Rome since 2008, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this game ends in a stalemate.
