Laurel Park Picks – Saturday, December 5, 2020

| December 4, 2020 1:46 pm PDT

Laurel Park’s schedule for Saturday includes two state staples — the Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes and the Maryland Juvenile Futurity, worth $100,000 apiece in prize money.

Laurel Park closed the jockey club as of November 20, 2020, but you probably wouldn’t want to brave the weather on Saturday, anyway: Partly cloudy skies with a 20% chance of precipitation, highs in the upper 40s, and winds at a chilling 15 mph.

Read on for my Laurel Park picks and betting tips for Saturday’s richest races.

Picks for Laurel Park Race 4

This is an allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $47,000.

I’m backing the third-favored (3/1) entry here — Parisian Diva, with J. D. Acosta in the irons. This four-year-old filly moneyed 13 of her 14 career starts, winning nine of them — four of which were stakes races.

The longest I’ll go for a show bet in this race is 12/1 on Auldwood Lane with Johan Rosado aboard. This five-year-old mare finished in the money eight of her ten career starts, winning three.

  • Win: Parisian Diva 3/1
  • Show: Auldwood Lane 12/1

Picks for Laurel Park Race 7 – Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes

This is the Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes, an ungraded stakes race for Maryland-bred and -sired two-year-old fillies running a distance of seven furlongs for a purse of $100,000.

I’m going with the third-favored (4/1) entry here — Miss Nondescript, ridden by Trevor McCarthy. Not only has this filly won both of her career starts, but she handed a second-place finish to this match’s morning-line favorite back in October in the Maryland Million Lassie Stakes (Black Type).

I found another 10/1 value show wager — Trip to Freedom, with Horacio Karamanos in the irons. This filly moneyed all three of her career starts.

  •  Win: Miss Nondescript 4/1
  •  Show: Trip to Freedom 10/1

Picks for Laurel Park Race 8 – Maryland Juvenile Futurity

This is the Maryland Juvenile Futurity, an ungraded stakes race for Maryland-bred and -sired two-year-olds running a distance of seven furlongs for a purse of $100,000.

I’m sticking with the 4/5 morning line favorite here — Jaxon Traveler, with Johan Rosado aboard. This filly won both of her career starts.

At 20/1, Latin Spice, ridden by veteran jockey Jevian Toledo, looks like a very good show wager. This filly moneyed all five of her career starts, winning one.

  • Win: Jaxon Traveler 4/5
  • Show: Latin Spice 20/1

My Other Predictions for Saturday

Laurel Park gave us lots of ups and downs, and I think you’ll find the wagering even more interesting at the other two tracks I reviewed for Saturday:
