Las Vegas Raiders vs. Los Angeles Chargers – NFL Week 9, 2020
Week 9 AFC West showdown at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, will see the Las Vegas Raiders take on the Los Angeles Chargers for the first time in 2020.
The stake is huge for both teams. Las Vegas is 4-3 and wants to keep pace with Kansas City, while the 2-5 Chargers desperately need a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
I’m breaking down the odds and teams’ current form to find the best Raiders vs. Chargers betting pick for Sunday, November 8, so let’s take a look.
Raiders vs. Chargers Odds
According to Bovada, we should see a very tight clash at SoFi Stadium, as the hosts are listed as 1.5-point favorites.
The bookies expect a high-scoring affair, setting the totals at 54.0 points, but six of the previous seven encounters between the Raiders and Chargers went in the under.
Las Vegas Raiders Form
The Raiders are coming off a 16-6 road victory at the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday. It was their best defensive display of the season, no doubt, as Las Vegas is surrendering 29.0 points per game (25th in the NFL).
Just two weeks ago, the Raiders conceded 45 against the Buccaneers at home. This time, they limited the Browns to just 223 total yards and a couple of field goals.
Furthermore, the Raiders’ offense was on the field for almost 38 minutes. Josh Jacobs had 31 totes for 128 yards, while Derek Carr threw for 112 yards and a TD.
Las Vegas is scoring 26.7 points per game (12th) on 379.0 total yards (11th), and Carr has the fourth-best quarterback rating in the league (110.2).
Los Angeles Chargers Form
The Chargers are a mess this season. They blew another double-digit lead in Week 8, suffering a 31-30 defeat at the Denver Broncos. Los Angeles had a 21-point lead midway through the third quarter, while the Broncos scored the winning TD as the time expired in the fourth.
Despite an excellent offensive performance, the Chargers suffered their fifth loss in the last six outings. They ran for 210 yards while rookie Justin Herbert tossed for 278 yards, three touchdowns, and a couple of interceptions.
However, the Chargers allowed 21 fourth-quarter points, and that’s simply unacceptable. Los Angeles is yielding 26.4 points per game this season (19th), scoring 25.6 points in a return (17th). Six of their seven contests in 2020 were decided by one possession, so the Chargers obviously struggle to finish the job down the stretch.
Raiders vs. Chargers Pick
The Raiders are only 2-4 SU and ATS in their last six meetings with the Chargers, but they beat LA twice last season and covered on both occasions. Las Vegas is 5-3 ATS in its previous eight outings as an underdog, while the Chargers are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 showings as favorites.
I don’t trust the Chargers at all even though Justin Herbert is showing glimpses of quality. Their defense is inconsistent and beaten up by injuries, so I’m backing the Raiders to keep it close and lose by three or fewer points, or even upset the odds and beat their divisional foes on the road.
The Raiders have some serious defensive problems, but their offense has been playing very well since the opening weekend. They can run the ball efficiently and control the clock, so I think the Raiders will cover a 3.5-point spread.
Las Vegas Raiders +3.5-163
