Aces vs. Sky WNBA Prediction – Saturday, May 28, 2022

| May 27, 2022 5:29 pm PDT

Saturday’s WNBA action features a thrilling matchup between the Las Vegas Aces and Chicago Sky. Las Vegas holds the best record in the WNBA, but Chicago is the defending champion. They’ve looked strong in their title defense.

This will be their first matchup of 2022. The Aces won two of three games last season, including a 33-point road victory. Do you think Chicago remembers that embarrassing defeat? Perhaps we’ll see extra motivation in Saturday’s matchup.

Let’s see how the sportsbooks are viewing this matchup.

Aces vs. Sky Odds for May 28th

Las Vegas Aces (-2.0)-110
Chicago Sky (+2.0)-110
Over 168.5 Points-110
Under 168.5 Points-110

The Las Vegas Aces opening as the favorite is nothing new. Las Vegas has been the favorite in all eight games of the 2022 season. However, this is the first time the spread is under four points.

Las Vegas is 6-2 against the spread, covering in six of their seven victories. The Chicago Sky have looked good this season, but the betting trends haven’t been kind to them. Chicago has only covered in two of their six games. They did cover as a road underdog against the Washington Mystics.

We’ll have a pretty high point total for Saturday’s matchup. The Aces have cleared this mark in five games, while the Sky only have one game over 168.5 points.

Las Vegas will likely be without Riquna Williams as she deals with a foot sprain. Li Yueru could make her WNBA debut after Chicago activated her to their roster. How will she look in her first WNBA game?

Here is my analysis of Saturday’s matchup.

Aces vs. Sky Analysis

The Las Vegas Aces have held the best record in the WNBA in the last two seasons. Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to capitalize with a championship. Still, the early 2022 WNBA Championship odds had them as the favorite.

It’s still early in the 2022 season, but the Aces have lived up to the hype. They’re 7-1 behind an offense that leads the league with 93.3 points per game.

A’ja Wilson is a former WNBA MVP, but Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum have been the leading scorers.

  • Jackie Young: 19.3 points per game
  • Kelsey Plum: 18.1 points per game

Young leads the league in scoring, with Plum in fifth. Both players have an early case for the 2022 WNBA MVP. It’ll be interesting to see how they perform a strong Chicago Sky defense.

Chicago is among the league leaders with 77.2 points per game allowed. Only two teams have reached 80 points against the Sky. Can their defense keep it up against a high-powered Aces offense?

Las Vegas’ offense will garner the attention, but Chicago has a solid unit. Two-time WNBA MVP Candance Parker has been their best player.

  • 14.3 points
  • 7.7 rebounds
  • 5.2 assists
  • 1.3 blocks
  • 1.2 steals
  • 51.5 field goal percentage

Parker played an integral role in Chicago winning their first WNBA Championship in franchise history. The Sky have six players averaging over 10 points, while Courtney Vandersloot leads the league with 8.3 assists per game.

We know Las Vegas has the best offense while Chicago has a top-tier defense. However, I believe this matchup will come down to the Aces’ defense vs. the Sky’s offense. Las Vegas’ defense hasn’t been great, but their offense masks that weakness.

Either way, we should see a fun matchup on Saturday. Which team will score the victory?

Aces vs. Sky Game Props

  • Las Vegas Aces 1st Quarter (-1.0) (-110)
  • Chicago Sky Over 83.5 Points (-110)
  • Half Time/Full Time: Aces – Aces (+115)

Unfortunately, we don’t have a same game parlay for the WNBA. The good news is there are plenty of props for the Las Vegas Aces vs. Chicago Sky.

The Las Vegas Aces have lost the first quarter in two of their three matchups with the Phoenix Mercury. I mention Phoenix because that’s the only team to contend with Las Vegas in the first quarter.

Las Vegas has won the first quarter by at least eight points in four of their other five games. Their high-powered offense allows them to jump out to an early lead. They should keep it going against the Sky.

Can the Sky keep up with the Aces’ offense? We know Las Vegas averages over 90 points, but Chicago is no slouch. Take a look at their highest-scoring games of the season.

  • Sparks: 91 points
  • Liberty: 83 points
  • Fever: 95 points

Chicago also has a pair of games with 82 points. That’s right on the edge for this prop, but they’ll have to score to keep up with Las Vegas. That should push them over 83.5 points.

We’re thinking outside the box with my final game prop. I already picked the Aces to win the first quarter, so let’s keep it going with the first half. Las Vegas hasn’t been the best second-quarter team, but they can maintain the lead.

A hot start should put them in position to win the first half. I might spoil my game pick, but I also like the Aces to win the game outright. Let’s talk about why I’m taking Las Vegas over Chicago.

Aces vs. Sky Pick

My Pick: Las Vegas Aces (-2.0) (-110)Bet on the Aces at BetOnline

It’s not often you’ll see the Las Vegas Aces as a slight favorite. It’ll be a tough road matchup against the defending WNBA Champions, but I can’t pass up this opportunity.

Las Vegas has lived up to the hype of the preseason favorite. Their offense is firing on all cylinders thanks to a pair of MVP contenders. And that doesn’t include 2020 WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson.

WNBA fans will be able to tune into Saturday’s matchup at 3 p.m. ET on ABC. Head over to our basketball picks page to see the top NBA and WNBA predictions and picks.
