LA Galaxy vs. Vancouver Whitecaps – MLS, October 18, 2020
The Galaxy will be aiming to end a woeful six-game losing streak when Vancouver visits California on Sunday, October 18. Six straight losses mean the Los Angeles club is four points adrift at the bottom of the Western Conference, with the Whitecaps six points ahead in eighth place.
Four consecutive defeats across late September and early October damaged the Canadians’ play-off ambitions, although back-to-back victories have since seen the Caps sneak into the top eight.
Read on to see my LA Galaxy vs. Vancouver Whitecaps prediction and betting pick.
LA Galaxy vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Odds
The bookmakers clearly think that LA Galaxy (1.50) is on the verge of ending their slump. However, given that Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side has lost their last six games, I’m surprised the odds for the home win are so low here.
Meanwhile, the Whitecaps (5.30) head into this clash on the back of successive victories over Real Salt Lake and LAFC, so they will be brimming with confidence.
In my opinion, the odds for the draw and the away win are enticingly high.
Previewing the Game
When will the Galaxy stop losing!?
The California club’s last win came all the way back at the beginning of August. Since then, one draw and six defeats have seen Barros Schelotto’s men become cut adrift at the bottom of the Western Conference – and the defeats gradually seem to be getting worse.
The Galaxy’s dreadful run began with 2-0 losses to Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake, with subsequent defeats to Seattle Sounders (3-1) and San Jose (2-1). But their last two results have been nothing short of humiliating.
Following a 6-3 thrashing at the hands of Portland Timbers last week, the Galaxy was crushed 4-0 by the Quakes on Wednesday. To be honest, it is difficult to see how Barros Schelotto is going to turn things around.
Talking of turning things around, Vancouver has transformed their season with a couple of hugely impressive victories. After losing four straight games, the Whitecaps beat Real Salt Lake last weekend before edging LAFC by the same scoreline in midweek.
However, the Caps are still the only team in MLS without a draw to their name this year. Sure, only the top three teams in the West have won more games than Marc Dos Santos’ men in 2020. But they have lost 11 of their 18 outings, and that is clearly a cause for concern.
Even the struggling Galaxy has lost fewer games than Vancouver this term, and the Los Angeles club has two games in hand over the Canadians. The recent signs have been promising for the Caps, but they have endured a wildly inconsistent campaign overall.
LA Galaxy vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Pick
Even if I did think the Galaxy could win this game, odds of 1.50 for the home win are too low to bother in my eyes. After all, the Los Angeles outfit has lost six straight games, so the price for the home victory would need to be a lot high for me to be interested.
That said, I believe the draw is the way to go here. The Galaxy’s losing streak has to come to an end at some point, but Vancouver isn’t likely to surrender all three points on Sunday.
