At opposite ends of the Major League Soccer spectrum, two clubs meet this Saturday, May 15, with the LA Galaxy hosting Austin FC.

The Galaxy has clinched five MLS Cups and four Supporters’ Shields over the years. On the flip side, Austin is about to play only the fifth match of its maiden MLS season.

Having clinched three wins in their opening four games, Greg Vanney’s men sit third in the Western Conference. However, the newcomers are only three points behind.

Can the expansion club upset the odds in Carson? Keep reading to find my LA Galaxy vs. Austin FC prediction and betting pick.

Austin FC to Win4.10

It is no real surprise that all the top-rated sports betting sites view the Galaxy as the favorite to claim all three points on Saturday. After all, Vanney’s men have started to season in eye-catching form.

Let’s not forget that Austin has already picked up a couple of impressive results, too. Following victories over Colorado and Minnesota, Los Verdes will surely fancy their chances of unsettling the Galaxy.

LA Galaxy Team News and Analysis

The Galaxy kicked off the 2021 MLS campaign by securing back-to-back 3-2 wins, seeing off Inter Miami and the Red Bulls in the process.

Having managed to score just twice in 12 appearances last season, Javier Hernandez is a man on a mission this term. The Mexican bagged a whopping five goals across the first two matches this year, including a hat-trick against RBNY.

Vanney’s men were brought back down to earth by Seattle in Week 3, losing 3-0 to the Sounders. But they swiftly returned to winning ways last weekend by sealing a memorable El Trafico victory.

Chicharito took his tally to six goals in four games with an early strike against LAFC. Despite finishing the match with 38%, the Galaxy won 2-1 thanks to Jonathan dos Santos’ 79th-minute winner.

Of course, Vanney will be pleased that his side is scoring plenty of goals at the moment, although he will be wary of his team’s defensive record.

Vanney’s men may have scored eight goals this year, but they have also conceded the same number.

If they can tighten up their backline, they will be tough to beat.

Austin FC Team News and Analysis

I’m sure that Austin will be pleased with how things are going at the moment. I mean, Josh Wolff’s men have taken six points from a possible 12 up to now, so they can’t have too many complaints.

After losing to LAFC on the opening weekend, the Texans claimed an impressive comeback win over the Rapids. Trailing 1-0 with 30 minutes remaining, Los Verdes scored three late goals to stun Colorado, with Cecilio Dominguez bagging a brace.

We all know that sealing back-to-back wins in Major League Soccer is no easy task, but the newcomers showed their class by getting the better of Minnesota in Week 3.

Remarkably, Austin was on course to wrap up three consecutive victories last weekend. Jon Gallagher opened his account for the club, but following Alexander Ring’s 67th-minute red card, Sporting Kansas City scored twice in the final eight minutes.

If Wolff’s men continue to play an exciting brand of attacking soccer, they will almost certainly enjoy a successful debut campaign.

LA Galaxy vs. Austin FC Pick

  • LA Galaxy to Win

I like what I’ve seen of Austin so far. The newcomers have already proved they can compete at this level, so I’m sure they will do well this year.

That said, it is difficult to ignore the Galaxy’s positive start to the season. With Chicharito spearheading the Vanney era, the five-time MLS Cup champions are heading in the right direction again.

The home win is my LA Galaxy vs. Austin FC betting pick.
