KBO Predictions and Analysis – Wednesday, September 8 (2021)
The only two South Korean baseball games that the weather allowed in the previous round were both very entertaining. Let’s hope we get more of the same on Wednesday when we’re expected to have a full round, according to the latest forecasts.
I cover all fixtures in my KBO predictions for September 8. The post includes team news and my own thoughts about the following five games.
- Hanwha Eagles vs. NC Dinos
- Kia Tigers vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- LG Twins vs. SSG Landers
- Lotte Giants vs. Samsung Lions
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. Doosan Bears
Hanwha Eagles to Beat NC Dinos
I’m sure that many will be shocked to see this prediction. On the surface, the NC Dinos should be favored for the upcoming clash.
The Eagles have been stubborn against some of the top teams in the country recently when they could rely on some of their top pitchers.
Nick Kingham is exactly that, and he allowed only one run in seven innings the last time he met the Dinos. The American knows how to beat them, and his offense should be able to help.
The Eagles will face the struggling Kang Tae-gyeong, so they should be able to find some runs. I see enough to go against the champions here, and that’s my final pick.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Kia Tigers
This game fell through on Tuesday because of the rainy conditions, and the two sides are expected to send the same lineups for the next day.
This means that KT Wiz Suwon should have the upper hand when it comes to the starting pitchers. Kia’s Daniel Mengden has been decent, but his stats so far can’t compare with the very consistent Odrisamer Despaigne.
On top of that, Suwon’s superior offense and bullpen should provide even more advantages to the league leaders. It’s hard to pick the underdog here, and I feel obliged to back KT Wiz in my KBO predictions for September 8.
LG Twins to Beat SSG Landers
Another game that was postponed in the previous round, and once again, we should have the same pitchers that were supposed to lead their teams on Tuesday.
The Twins usually rely on their defense, and I’m not sure that Im Chan-kyu is good enough to keep the opponents quiet. He did that once against the Landers in 2021, but that’s his only victory of the season.
SSG’s starter has been even worse, and his 5.69 ERA is problematic. If you add the team’s inconsistent performances lately, backing the Twins is the more logical choice.
Samsung Lions to Beat Lotte Giants
The Samsung Lions were beaten by the Lotte Giants on Tuesday, despite using one of their top pitchers. The team enters the next game as a huge favorite once again, thanks to the starting lineups.
Won Tae-in is about to start for Samsung, and he’s been even better than David Buchanan. The pitcher has three wins against the same opponent already in 2021, and I expect another solid performance.
I’m not sure that we could rely on Kim Jin-uk to do the same for the Giants. The pitcher has struggled badly in 2021, and the Lions should be able to beat him.
Doosan Bears to Beat Kiwoom Heroes
If you’re looking for a KBO game with a clear favorite on September 8, the clash between the Bears and the Heroes is exactly that.
Ariel Miranda’s record in the KBO is fantastic, and he’s been dominating the league. The Bears have 11 wins from 15 games with him as a starter.
The team will be confident in another victory on Wednesday, especially if you consider Kiwoom’s starter. Kim Dong-hyeok is still a teenager, and the lack of experience was obvious in two of his three games so far.
I believe that the Bears have all the means to punish the youngster, which would be enough to win.
