KBO Predictions and Analysis – Wednesday, October 27

All three of my KBO predictions for the previous round were correct! Let’s hope the same trend continues for the rest of the week too.
We have a full round of five fixtures in South Korean baseball on Wednesday and I share my expectations for all of them below. Here’s a complete list of the games scheduled for October 27.
- Kia Tigers vs. Lotte Giants
- LG Twins vs. Hanwha Eagles
- NC Dinos vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- Doosan Bears vs. SSG Landers
- Samsung Lions vs. Kiwoom Heroes
Kia Tigers to Beat Lotte Giants
The Lotte Giants are doing their best to stay in the battle for the playoffs, but their chances are minimal at this point. I believe they will be completely wiped out on Wednesday when they meet the Tigers for two reasons.
The first one is that their opponents will have the stronger starting pitcher. Here are the players who will get the nod on October 27.
- Daniel Mengden (Tigers); 7-3; 3.75 ERA
- Lee In-bok (Giants); 3-0; 4.55 ERA
Daniel Mengden had some issues when he first joined South Korean baseball, but his last several performances have been amazing. The guy is flying right now and he conceded only 2 runs in 19 innings played in October.
He’s certainly better than Lotte’s Lee In-bok. The veteran is a decent player, but his stats are worse and you can rarely see him for more than four or five innings.
On top of that, the Tigers have been solid against the Giants this year and they have a slight advantage in the head-to-head battles. That gives me enough reasons to back Kia in my KBO predictions for October 27.
LG Twins to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The LG Twins kept the Hanwha Eagles quiet in the previous round and won. The victory keeps their chances to climb the table before the end of the KBO regular season alive.
I expect more of the same on Wednesday, mostly because the favorites are about to send one of their best starters. Here are the projected pitchers for the game.
- Andrew Suarez (Twins); 9-2; 2.28 ERA
- Nick Kingham (Eagles); 10-7; 3.04 ERA
Andrew Suarez is among the most reliable pitchers in the entire league. Hanwha’s Nick Kingham is not bad either, but he lost both of his games against the Twins and the team’s bullpen will be very shaky.
The Twins are unlikely to allow many runs here, so another win in their favor makes the most sense.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat NC Dinos
The NC Dinos lost a crucial game on Tuesday and another defeat in the upcoming clash against KT Wiz will likely put an end to their desperate attempts to qualify for the playoffs.
The reigning champions simply can’t defend well enough and that has been the reason behind most of their defeats.
I don’t expect much better on Wednesday. Let’s check the starting pitchers to find out why.
- Lee Jae-hak (Dinos); 6-6; 4.99 ERA
- Lee In-bok (KT Wiz); 9-9; 3.38 ERA
NC’s starter has been inconsistent this season and he allowed 3 runs in just over 4 innings against KT Wiz earlier this month. In comparison, Suwon’s starter is a guy who looked strong in all of his four games against the Dinos.
Lee In-bok has a 1.99 in these fixtures and he knows how to stop the Dinos. On top of that, NC’s bullpen has been abysmal at times and KT Wiz has the means to punish every mistake.
SSG Landers to Beat Doosan Bears
Both sides won important games in the previous round to open a small gap to the chasing pack. They are in an excellent spot to take the last two postseason places in the standings.
Another victory on Wednesday might be enough to guarantee that to the team that achieves it. I believe that the Landers are in a better position to get there.
Their form has been excellent recently and the mental strength shown by the squad has been remarkable.
On top of that, SSG’s starting pitcher for this one is much stronger. Here are the players who will begin the game.
- Kim Min-gyu (Bears); 2-3; 6.40 ERA
- Wilmer Font (Landers); 8-4; 3.47 ERA
If the stats above are not enough for you, let me just add that Wilmer Font already beat the Bears twice in October. He has a 3-0 record against this team and his confidence will be sky-high. Another victory for the Landers is the sensible prediction for this one.
Samsung Lions to Beat Kiwoom Heroes
The Kiwoom Heroes lost another important game on Tuesday and they are now underdogs when it comes to progressing to the knockouts.
The team desperately needs a win and on paper, it has a good chance to achieve it. The main reason are the starters for this match, so let’s check them out.
- Mike Montgomery (Lions); 2-4; 5.36 ERA
- Jeong Chan-heon (Heroes); 8-5; 4.24 ERA
The Heroes have the more consistent pitcher based on stats and Jeong Chan-heong even looked great against the Lions earlier this month.
And yet, his other two games in October were a complete disaster. On top of that, the Heroes have been wildly inconsistent, while the Lions just climbed to the top of the table. They will be eager to hold on and grab the first seed for the playoffs.
This one should be close, but I believe that the Lions are stronger mentally and that would make the difference.
