KBO Predictions and Analysis – Tuesday, September 28 (2021)
September is almost over and most of the regular season in the top South Korean baseball division is behind us. It’s now or never for some of the teams, so we should see even more intensive games in the near future.
There will be five of them in the first round of the week, and I cover them all in my KBO predictions for September 28. Here are all fixtures on Tuesday’s schedule.
- Kia Tigers vs. NC Dinos
- Lotte Giants vs. LG Twins
- Doosan Bears vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- SSG Landers vs. Samsung Lions
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. Hanwha Eagles
Kia Tigers to Beat NC Dinos
There’s something terribly wrong with the reigning champions this season, and no one will be shocked if the Dinos don’t qualify for the playoffs at this point.
Both the defense and the offense have been abysmal lately, but the collective lack of desire to win looks like the biggest issue.
When a squad’s morale is completely gone, you can expect defeats even against the weakest opposition. That’s why I prefer backing the Tigers in the next clash. The team is starting the stronger pitcher, and the Dinos look like they don’t really care at this stage of the season.
LG Twins to Beat Lotte Giants
The LG Twins are still hunting the teams above them, and I’m sure that the squad hasn’t given up on the top spot in the standings. The Lotte Giants have ambitions of their own after some decent periods in August.
The team is still trying to close the gap to the last spot that provides a place in the offseason. A win on Tuesday could be vital for both sides, and none of them can rely on a solid starting pitcher to achieve it.
And yet, the Twins have the stronger bullpen, and they have been solid against the Giants this season. On top of that, the team won against the KBO leaders KT Wiz twice in a row over the weekend.
I see enough reasons to back LG in my KBO predictions for Tuesday, but this one could be very close.
Doosan Bears to Beat KT Wiz Suwon
Both sides have been great lately, but KT Wiz Suwon suffered a bit of a setback at the end of last week. The league leaders lost twice against the Twins, and their lead is starting to look fragile.
The slump could very well continue on Tuesday. The Doosan Bears have lost only once in their last ten games and have the best record in South Korean baseball over the past two weeks.
The team news doesn’t favor any of the sides, so I’m going to pick the Bears purely based on momentum here.
Samsung Lions to Beat SSG Landers
If you’re about to bet on Korean baseball on Tuesday, you should definitely check the totals line for this one. Both sides will be sending suspect pitchers, and we might very well see a wild shootout.
The Lions are forced to use a teenager with plenty of talent but still doesn’t have the experience to perform at the highest level.
SSG’s Jo Yeong-u has been around for longer, but he has a 2-7 record in 2021, and he was demolished by the Lions already this season.
We should see plenty of runs in this one, but the Lions are the better side, and they have a stronger offense, so I prefer them.
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The Kiwoom Heroes are not very good right now, and the Hanwha Eagles are sending Ryan Carpenter, who’s been one of their most reliable pitchers. Under normal circumstances, that would be enough to back the last-placed team.
The problem for the Eagles is that Eric Jokisch is next in Kiwoom’s rotation. The pitcher has a 2-0 record against them, and he’s among the best KBO players in this position.
The Heroes certainly enter this clash as the main favorite, and I expect a victory for them on Tuesday.
