KBO Predictions and Analysis – Thursday, September 9 (2021)

| September 8, 2021 9:27 am PDT

The previous round of elite South Korean baseball included five fixtures and no interruptions because of the weather. It looks like that will be the case on Thursday, too, which rarely happens these days.

I explore what the latest team news tells us about all encounters in my KBO predictions for September 9. Here’s a list of all fixtures I’ve included, and I hope they help with your KBO wagers.

  • Hanwha Eagles vs. LG Twins
  • Kia Tigers vs. Kiwoom Heroes
  • KT Wiz Suwon vs. Samsung Lions
  • Doosan Bears vs. NC Dinos
  • SSG Landers vs. Lotte Giants

Hanwha Eagles to Beat LG Twins

I expected a win for the Eagles against NC Dinos in the previous round, and the team delivered. It was another proof that the last-placed squad in the league has found some form right now.

I expect to see more of the same against the Twins, mostly because it’s Ryan Carpenter’s turn in the rotation. The American has great stats, and the Eagles usually win when he receives enough support from his batters.

I think that might be the case on Thursday because LG’s Casey Kelly has been underwhelming in his last three starts. On top of that, the Twins have lost four in a row and look far from their best right now.

Kiwoom Heroes to Beat Kia Tigers

After struggling in the past two or three weeks, the Kiwoom Heroes are now in a fierce battle for a place in the KBO postseason. The team had multiple opportunities to try for the top spots instead, but consistency has been a huge issue.

The upcoming couple of games against one of the worst sides in South Korea could deliver a boost to Kiwoom’s ambitions.

The good news is that the Heroes will be able to rely on one of their best pitchers on Thursday. Jeong Chan-heon has a 7-2 record on solid stats, and he looked great against the Tigers twice already in 2021.

Kia’s other problem for the upcoming clash is their own starter. Kim Hyeon-su has been abysmal this year, and I don’t think he can stop the Heroes.

KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Samsung Lions

KT Wiz surprisingly tied against Kia on Wednesday, but that wasn’t so bad if you look at the other teams from the top 5. They all lost, so Suwon’s lead at the top was extended.

The squad has a good chance for another good day on Thursday because William Cuevas is about to start. He has decent stats as a whole, and his 2-0 record on a 1.50 ERA against the same opponent is quite telling.

I expect a good performance by Cuevas, and the offense should provide enough support. Choi Chae-heung is next for the Lions, and he’s been punished multiple times this season.

Backing KT Wiz in my KBO predictions for September 9 is the only sensible choice.

Doosan Bears to Beat NC Dinos

Both finalists from last year’s Korean Series are currently out of the top 5, and they might very well miss the KBO playoffs. I don’t think anyone expected this, but there’s still time for both sides.

Winning on Thursday would be a step in the right direction, and I think that the Bears should have the upper hand in this game.

Choi Won-joon is next in Doosan’s rotation, and he’s been awesome this season. The pitcher has an excellent record and stats, so the Dinos will find it hard to score a lot of runs.

I’m not sure they can contain the Bears either. Shin Min-hyeok will start, and he has been shaky in 2021.

I don’t think it will be easy, but I believe that the Doosan Bears should be able to win on Thursday.

SSG Landers to Beat Lotte Giants

After struggling in his first three games in South Korea, Sam Gaviglio was phenomenal in his previous appearance for the Landers. The experienced pitcher stopped the Doosan Bears and didn’t allow even a single run in seven innings.

That’s a good sign, and I think he can lead his team to another win on Thursday. The American will face a less dangerous offense, and he should receive enough support from his own batters.

Enderson Franco is expected to get the nod for the Giants, and he looked awful the last time he met the Landers. His overall stats for 2021 are not too impressive either, so I believe that the Landers should be able to win on September 9.
