KBO Predictions and Analysis – Saturday, September 18 (2021)
This has been one of the most entertaining weeks of South Korean baseball up to this point. Very few games were postponed because of the weather, and plenty of fixtures delivered a ton of runs. I sincerely hope that the weekend will continue the positive trend!
In this post, I share my KBO predictions for Saturday, September 18. The following five games are on the schedule, and it looks like the weather will be fine for all of them.
- Kia Tigers vs. LG Twins
- KT Wiz Suwon vs. NC Dinos
- Lotte Giants vs. Hanwha Eagles
- Doosan Bears vs. Kiwoom Heroes
- Samsung Lions vs. SSG Landers
Kia Tigers to Beat LG Twins
If you approach this clash based purely on the standings, you should certainly back the LG Twins. The team has been much stronger this season and has the best defense in South Korean baseball.
On the negative side, the Twins have been shaky this week, while the Tigers registered prestigious wins against the Samsung Lions and the Lotte Giants.
They also have a respectable 5-7 record against Saturday’s opponent and the better starting pitcher. That gives me enough reasons to back the underdog in my KBO predictions for September 18.
NC Dinos to Beat KT Wiz Suwon
Тhe best team in 2021 meets the 2020 Korean champion in this one! It should be a cracking game, and it’s certainly among the toughest to predict on Saturday.
Drew Rucinski is next in NC’s rotation, and he’s been the team’s best pitcher this season. The American met KT Wiz twice and split the games. He should be able to trouble the KBO leaders. I expect the same from Ko Young-pyo, who has ten victories this season.
The overall impression is it should be a tight game that could go either way. And yet, my gut feeling is that the Dinos will be desperate to restore some of their reputation, which could give them the extra edge.
Lotte Giants to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The Lotte Giants still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs, and two wins against the last-placed Eagles could help their cause immensely.
Both teams won’t be able to rely on steady pitchers, but the Giants are at least expected to use one of their starters. The Eagles have a bunch of problems, so they are forced to send a reliever who got destroyed more than once this season.
If you add Lotte’s motivation to fight for the postseason, it feels like the Giants should have the upper hand on Saturday.
Doosan Bears to Beat Kiwoom Heroes
Predicting any game that involves the Kiwoom Heroes has been a nightmare this season. The team just conceded 23 runs in two games against the last-placed Hanwha Eagles.
It was a horror show, and the starting pitcher for Saturday allowed five runs in only a single inning the last time he met the Bears.
You never know with Kiwoom, but they have been way too vulnerable defensively this week.
Samsung Lions to Beat SSG Landers
Both sides have only one win in their last five KBO games and would be desperate to grab a victory on Saturday.
The Lions have the stronger arguments because they are about to start David Buchanan. The pitcher has an 11-4 record this season on excellent stats, including a strong performance in his only clash versus the Landers.
Buchanan can certainly stop the opposition, while SSG’s Lee Tae-yang has been shaky this year. He has a 4-7 record, and he lost his only game against the Lions.
I would urge you to be careful because the Landers are capable of upsetting the odds and have done so more than once this season. And yet, the reasonable choice for this encounter would be to back the Lions.
